    New Windscreen for my R36

    Hi Folks,

Heard a big bang on my windscreen yesterday on the Western Ring Road, err...I mean raceway and found this morning when I got in the car for work the screen has a 50cm horizontal crack and a vertical crack that runs to the top of the screen...and the impact was just below where the rain sensor is.

Suffice to say the screen is cactus...not happy but at least I didn't cop any tennis ball size hail stones.

So might just get Barloworld to replace the screen...anything I should watch for or check on after the repair?

    Thanks,
    Andrew...

The way they remove the seal between the screen and the sickaflex is a tad agricultural if you ask me. It's like a thin metalic vibrating tongue and it can easily damage the dash, a-pillar or roof trim if the person doing it isn't paying attention to what they're doing. I've seen it happen before! So if you're not watching while they're doing it, make sure you check al your plastics and trim afterwards, including having a good look in from the outside at the front of the dash that you can't see from inside the car.

Make sure you get a proper OEM VW windscreen and also make sure that the R36 doesn't have a different windscreen to other Passat models.

The reason I say this is the generic replacement windscreens often don't have the window for the VIN and this will be blocked out and also the MkIV R32 has a different windscreen to all other Australian delivered MkIV Golfs. It has a blue tint to areas of it (not sure where).

    Cheers,
    Trent

    That's a bummer.
Did you select the free windscreen replacement a year-option on your insurance?
I have an RACV windscreen voucher for the value of $200, which I am happy to sell to you for $ 100 if that eases the pain.
    Good luck either way.

Thanks guys for all your help.

As this is a company vehicle, they will take care of it and find out if we have the option for windscreen cover with our policy...I think they are with AAMI.

Otherwise we will just have to cop it sweet and pay for a new one...about somewhere between $550 and $600

I am pretty sure the car will go to Barloworld and have a genuine screen fitted...but I will note the part number and make sure it matches.

The crack in the screen is now about 100cm and growing...

    Cheers Andrew...

    Wow 100cm is quite significant.
