    New tyres

Well, after 54, 671km, it was time for new tyres.. after ringing around a few places, I settled on Michelin Pilot Premacy PP2, fitted at Costco for $885.95 for the four.

So far, after about 60km, they seem to give better grip and handling, with turn-in much sharper and more bite from the brakes, while also being quieter. Will be rechecking the wheel stud tension in the morning, as well as the air pressures.

Be interesting to see how these go - I'm hoping to get better than 60,000km from these, by which time it'll probably be decision time on the car...

Didn't know that Costco sells tyres. Guess they sell everything.

I just changed mine last week with the Hankook V12. They seem much quieter than the Conti SC2. I'm surprised that yours lasted 50k+ km. My first set quit after 27k.

Interesting to see how much mileage you get out of these.
Keep in mind that you are comparing brand new tyres to tyres that were worn. As tyres wear gradually, you don't really notice the change in their behaviour until you replace them. Your old tyres were likely giving you better grip and handling, sharper turn-in and were quieter when they were new, compared to how they behaved at the end of their life.
Just something to keep in mind when 'rating' tyres.

    Good luck!

Costco to buy tyres, that is a new one...

I would check a few things though; not too sure if Michelin even make a tyre (current stock anyway) called Michelin Pilot Premacy PP2.

I used to have Michelin Pilot Preceda PP2 tyres on my MK4 GTI.

Michelin make the following Primacy Tyres; Primacy LC & Primacy HP.

You may want to check the specs of the tyres such as load rating etc. to confirm they suit your Passat.
For example my OEM tyres are; Dunlop SP Sport 01, 235/45 R17 97W Extra Load. These are made in Germany.

What are the specs on the side of your tyres? Where are they made?

Sorry, had the late night fuzzies.. they're the Pilot Preceda PP2, rated 235/45R17 97Z- which pleasantly surprised me, since I'd only seen 94W in there, and another tyre shop wanted about $50 extra for the higher load rating, but they were all the same price. Only thing I can't find is the country they were made in, but being Michelin I reckon their QA would be better than others, so not overly worried. Otherwise no different than from other tyre places.

Free servicing of the tyres for life is included - balance and rotate every 10,000km and free repairs (eg punctures). FWIW, considering I'm not bothered by it, they only pressurise tyres with nitrogen.

Some downsides - economy doesn't seem as good, but then I haven't been doing my normal sorts of driving lately, and the balance isn't brilliant and will be going back to get that sorted.

One bonus for me is that they're near my work - only about a 5 minute walk.
