    Cool New Passat or Tiguan?

    Hey guys,
im just on my P's and i was going to buy a GTi or GTi 35 Edition (yes i know both are banned on P's). however, due to my dad finding out that the GTi and 35 edition are banned, i have to choose a different car. i still love volkswagens so i have decided to choose the passat. however, i also have the option of buying the tiguan and using it for my P's for the 3 years before handing it to my mum (but passat will be passed down aswell) and my dad will buy me a new Golf R (mk7 hopefully?!) when im off P's.

So in your opinions, whats the better car the passat 118TSi, or the Tiguan 125TSi?

    Cheers!

    Depends what you want?!

Tiguan is probably funkier for someone like yourself. But if you are planning on loading it up with 3-4 friends and going away for weekends you may quickly run out of boot space... Then the Passat would be better.

Wish I had this dilemma when I was on my P's. Both different cars, think of what you're really after; sedan or small SUV.

The passat - it's a car so it goes around corners. The Tiguan is an SUV - i.e soccer mum's car, and doesn't.

But the 125TSI Tiguan can be simply chipped to give 190kw and 400nm of torque that will probably beat any stock GTI. Have no idea whether that can be done to the 118 TSI Passat (can't see why not though). Otherwise I'd go the 125 TDI Passat over the 118 TSI.

I thought Turbo cars and V8's were banned for P platers...

So you better forget that dangerously turbocharged 118TSI ...

Aaaaaaand buy a nice and safe naturaly aspirated little V6 passat... tell your dad about how the linear torque delivery means no boost rush like those nasty little turbo fours, AND it is AWD!! So double safe!

The fact that it will out accelerate an R or 35th is an unfortunate koinkidink....

(a real boot is a bonus! particularly as a wagon)

Never really understood why the current V6 Passat (and its predecessor the R36) were on the Vicroads 'P-plater approved' list while the Passat 118TSI required an exemption. Same with the former Golf R32 vs the lower powered Golf GT 1.4 of the same generation.

Look at the new Jetta, far more suitable to a young person than a Passat...

Yes, That was the point I was trying to make, okay so dripping with irony... but if the golf cant be had because of the turbo, unless the rules changed in the last year or two... out of all the petrol tiguans, passats, or jettas (do they still have an atmo Golf) the only car you can legaly drive is the fastest of the lot.

If the issue is "Due to my dad finding out that the GTi and 35 edition are banned".... passat aint...

(do I actualy think a v6 is safer than a 118 NO WAY - I was being satirical)

As far as speed goes, you'll kill yourself just as quickly in 118, 125 or v6 as you will in anything other than an automatic morris 1100. It's all bollocks and as you point out, the irony of it highlights the stupidity of these regulations. But just remember -every k over is a killer (and if you believe that, then I've got a bridge in Sydney that you might be interested in buying ).
