[B][I][B][B]Have been a (mostly) satisfied Outback driver for many years but am drawn to purchasing a 2008 + Passat -103 or 125 TDI- preferably with DSG. After reading many of the threads etc in relation to the issues with injectors ( mostly) at or near the end of warranty period, am questioning the wisdom of this despite the other obvious attractions of the marque- e.g build quality etc. Given the expense of injector replacement etc there would appear 4 options to consider when buying (a) purchase extended warranty - a hefty add on in itself (b) bite the bullet and go cold turkey in the hope that you might be one of the lucky ones (c) buy a petrol variant or (d) stay with the Suby.
Any words of comfort/wisdom out there - also have the Tiguans suffered similar issues with the TDI's. I'd appreciate any comment as although never having owned a VW watercooled or otherwise I've always had a bit of a soft spot for them- despite them now having risen a notch or two above what was once the peoples wagon.

Make me an offer on mine.. it had the injectors replaced about 14,000km ago.. For all the various foibles that VW seem to have (and the various threads and posts on here will give you an idea), when it goes, it goes well, with good ride, good handling, good performance and excellent economy (just how good, I'd forgotten until I spent a few days using my old man's VE Calais.. his best economy was far worse than my worst..). It's also comfortable and roomy, which is important for us with 3 dogs and a baby, and easily cruises all day on a trip from Melbourne to Newcastle.
I wouldn't say they handle like a go-kart, but then I've given it some on various roads and roundabouts and never had the ESP come on, only ABS and traction control a couple of times (when I've been expecting or trying them). And more than one Falcodore driver has been surprised that the Eurobox rattler has not only kept up with them, but gotten away - on the straight and through the corners. Think performance and internal space similar to about a VR/VS Commodore, but with better handling and grip.
