Yes they're pushing the Passat owners who want some decent performance to go and buy a new 206kW AWD Skoda Superb - as long as Skoda brings in this model...

Well if that is the case then Passat owners may well be moving to Superbs if the Golf R's 2.0T engine & 4-motion does come which I believe it will.

VWAUS must have a plan to bring a high power petrol 4-motion Passat B8 at some stage.... Surely...?

Engine options for the B8 Passat (that VWA had a choice of):

    Petrol engines

    1.4 TSI 1,395 cc turbocharged inline-four 92 kW/200 Nm
    1.4 TSI 1,395 cc turbocharged inline-four 110 kW/250 Nm
    1.8 TSI 1,798 cc turbocharged inline-four 132 kW/250 Nm
    2.0 TSI 1,984 cc turbocharged inline-four 162 kW/350 Nm
    2.0 TSI 1,984 cc turbocharged inline-four 206 kW/350 Nm

    Diesel engines

    1.6 TDI 1,598 cc turbocharged inline-four 88 kW/250 Nm
    2.0 TDI 1,968 cc turbocharged inline-four 110 kW/340 Nm
    2.0 TDI 1,968 cc turbocharged inline-four 140 kW/400 Nm
    2.0 TDI 1,968 cc twin-turbocharged inline-four 177 kW/500 Nm

And VWA has even ruled out the Passat GTE. Not that it's exactly a performance model.

Hopefully the colour of all future Passat models is limited to beige, to compliment the powertrain "options".

Well the current model has 4 shades of grey, 2 browns and a navy blue.

Also if you have a look at VWA website there is no longer a V6 model (though the brochure still shows one) and the wagon is only available as a diesel.

I guess this is what we have to look forward to in the new B8 Passat....

Also if you want a new V6 Passat then likely it's too late. There's only 1 demo V6 4motion showing on carsales of the 150+ MY15 cars.

Definately looks like i will keep the v6 for a while longer even if the newer tech that VWA wouldn't bring in anyway.

Why are Volkswagen Australia determined to be so conservative in their B8 Passat offerings? Do they think it won't sell much more than the B7 and have decided to restrict the range? How come our New Zealand neighbors already have it and can purchase from seven different variants including the Bi-TDI and range topping TSI 206Kw? Not to mention Highline, Comfortline and R-Line! Surely Australia is a bigger market?

    NZ has 4 engine options:

    • 1.8 TSI - 132 kW/250 Nm
    • 2.0 TDI - 140 kW/400 Nm
    • 2.0 TDI - 177 kW/500 Nm
    • 2.0 TSI - 206 kW/350 Nm

    And 3 trim levels:

    • Comfortline
    • Highline
    • R-line

Given that most of these engines/trims are going to be used across the MQB platform I can't see that the cost of holding spares is going to be that much more/any different. Obviously there is a cost to hold additional model options.
