New B7 TDI Passat morning starts

Hello I have new B7 TDI passat, had it for almost a month.
Almost every morning car has problem starting up. I depress the brake pedal, put the key in, press on it and ... nothing. Eventually after pressing the key 3-5 time it would start. sometimes engine stops when you stop pressing on the key.

Spoke to the dealer and they said it's normal (they explain that it has to build pressure in fuel line before car starts). As it's my first diesel and first car with push to start feature, I'm not sure what is normal what is not.

Damn! I am about to get the TDI as well!

Perhaps it is something to do with the bluemotion start/stop technology? When I test drove the dealer say the engine must warm up before this will kick in. Have you try to disable that and see if it makes difference?

I have a Volvo XC60 diesel, never had problem starting.

Sounds like a crock to me. We have a VW with a PD diesel and another with a CR diesel and neither need more than minimal cranking to start.

Start a thread in the diesel section about this as there are many with far more diesel experience than me.

Keep your foot depressed and wait for it to start.. I have one as a drive car and I live in cold canberra.. sometimes when you rush the car does not see you having your foot firm on the brake to trigger. there will be a pause from when you push the starter to when it chugs up.. it is warming it self..

This must be a new stop/start model thing, my 17 month old CC TDI never has a problem simply firing up.

russelwrx, I visited Werribee VW this afternoon and while booking in for test drives of the TSI and TDI I mentioned your post to the salesperson. She was curious too and immediately said let's try it on a B7 TDI wagon that hadn't been turned on all day. She depressed the brake pedal, inserted the key fob into the dash and the car started instantly. She said there shouldn't be more than a maximum 5 to 10 second delay. Just be sure as Phillip has mentioned to press the brake pedal firmly, hold it and insert the key fob securely. If your TDI still doesn't respond as suggested, do get it checked out by your dealer.
