Had to laugh after I first got it as I was babying it along a fair bit so the ecconomy was in the low 5's, my mate I share rides to work with drives one of the new Prius he gets about 5.2 l/100kms.................
Hang on, something is not right there is it? are they not meant to be the ants pants in ecconomy as opposed to a wagon weighing 1600kgs 125kw motor (I am glad I did not go the electric car way).

I agree- somethings wrong with hybrids (have you seen the figures for the hybrid Camry?). I'm averaging 5.9 - that's back and forwards to work everyday, then a 200km highway round trip about every 3rd or 4th weekend. So I reckon a highway run I would be averaging the low 5's. I had to laugh at the review of the new Holden Barina too, "it has a powerful 4cyl engine that puts out 85kw and 155nm of torque with an improved combined fuel consumption of 7.3l/100k's. I was getting a combined consumption out of the Tig of 9.2, and that was 190kw / 400nm and I 'enjoyed' the available power regularly.

Well I have now clocked up just over 10,000 kms and all seems to be going fine.
Loving the overtaking oomphf when in 'S' mode and foot planted it shoots me along quite well.
I guess it can be said to be run in......
Oh and the fuel ecconomy has suffered a bit from the joys of driving it a bit harder, but still can't complain about low 6's and high 5's per the 100kms.

Mine's going much better now that the warped fuel filter housing has been fixed and it's no longer leaking Diesel all over the engine bay! Have a smile back on my face when behind the wheel. Fuel economy is much better now too. Managed 7.5L/100km with about 60% traffic and 40% highway this tank. Not too bad for a big fat wagon around town.

Leaking fuel is not good bet you are glad you got that fixed.
My wagon is now just over 12,000kms and still going well and averaging 5.7/100kms.
Do have a problem with the iPhone not working or connecting to bluetooth the other day.
I think it may have been confused which car to connect to as the old ute's clip on bluetooth may have snatched the iPhone's attention first.
If I plug the iPhone into the glovebox plug before the bluetooth bits do their connecting stuff the iTunes music wont play. Not sut if there is a patch for this on the VW logic or not, may find out with the first sevice which should be due very soon.
Am taking it for a bit of a trip up the east coast to Tathra this week, looking forward to it.

...incompatibility of Kiddie seats with the sports seats...

Hey mate,

I just ordered/purchased a Passat Wagon with the Sport Pack - when you say the sports seats are incompatible with kiddie seats, do you mean there is no way to anchor a baby/child seat into the back seat? Or that the Volkswagen kids/booster seat specifically is incompatible?

Bought the car because the wife is pregnant! Really need it to be compatible with baby seats!

I bet yah all this will be released in the next mid upgrade version. The rumour is they are already testing a new platform passat due in 2013..wtf!!

A couple of folks on this thread have mentioned that they DON'T use Start/Stop and was curious as to why?

My experience with it is from my step-dad's Passat in Germany and my own with a rental Audi A4 during a trip last year. I absolutely loved it and what it did for fuel economy and it's a major attraction/selling point for our decision to get a Passat.

It never caused a delay flowing along in traffic over there and - no offense - with the majority of hopeless Aussie drivers half asleep at the wheel it's not going to be a problem here.

Is there anything of concern that would make you not use S/S (specifically for a DSG model)?

Spot on entice, if you want to have the rear seat booster option (ie: rear seat base can be flipped up & down) you cannot have it with the Sport pack. However, the Sport pack seats just as in the standard seats do allow for all manner of kids seats to be fitted using the Australian standard of anchor points & seat belt tethering. If you have an Isofix kid seat the Sport pack seats do have the Isofix mounts fitted.

Howdy.

My order for a v6 sportspack was rejected because one of the existing options I had was the child seats.

I picked the car up two days ago (will post once I have some more of a drive... we have guests so I have been driving a 7 seater suv all weekend.) The side bolsters dont go anywhere near my 40 year old spread... the look good, but they aint anything like my old WRX seats that I miss so much.

If I had my time again i would be thinking about the boosters and ordering a Scirroco wheel as per Clip (as per a thread somewhere where he lucked on a wheel supplied by another Qld VWWatercooled member who started bringing them in) because the standard sports sports pack steering wheel is a bit of a dissapointment, and the Kansas wheels are classy anyway.

You cant use the boosterns in NSW until your child is four (eldest almost is) or too big for the seat class below (youngest is enourmous -tall)...

Look for Clip's mod thread on his TDI Highline re flappy wheel (sorry, I am too flat out to look for paste in his thread) that will give you a combo of flappys and booster seats.

As for 10 month old Ferget it... and although you cant do a five point , you can do a H Belt which gives you four points, the passat built in booster is designed to collapse the rear in a frontal accident, which provides anti submarine protection by creating a scoop (without the crotch injuries from a strap between the castanets). I would be more than happy to have the boosters.
