My point is that it is potentially dangerous in certain situations, to have your car stalled (my experience), and that I really question any fuel saving costs - unless you sit in traffic and have long delays not moving. I'd consider upgrading to the Scirroco steering wheel. If we couldn't do anything through the guy in QLD that Clip used then how about this.......?

They are much nicer wheel to hold. funny how those small things can make such a big difference. The Polo has a bog stock wheel and it just feels aweful. Going to see if I can fit the original wheel off the Passat to it.
i'm keen on this too.m (125TDI no sport option chosen, so I assume needs fitting AND coding esp for the paddles to work)

How easy is it to remove the bag and refit? I dont even mind paying someone to do it... if they know what they're doing!
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....
Simple job, takes about 10 minutes to remove and fit~conectors all the same. Then just plug in vagcom and activate paddles and all done. Popping the release clips for horn pad/air bag is the only tricky bit. If you haven't done this before then can be a bit fiddly and for the little time it takes, then probably worth getting someone who has done it before.
HI All I've now just had the 60,000km service done (I use a non-dealer service guy) cost 750 which was a bit more than I was hoping but the transmission got serviced too and it is much better now I had forgotten how rough it had become.
I had been having an intermittent fault with the transmission where it would not change up to 6th (yes only an old 6 speed) I had to push it through manually and some times it changed back ???? and yes it was flat open road and driving at 100kms.
It has not done it since the service I have only done about 150 kms so far so it is too early to tell yet.
The car is still going well apart from the odd transmission issue, with fuel usage around 5.2 l/100kms (I use about 66 litres to travel 1100kms which calculates to 6 l/100kms) OK a slight discrepancy on the fuel usage between the computer and an old fashioned calculator.
I did drive it on some bumpy gravel roads earlier this year and now have some delightfully noisy rattles under the dashboard. Oh and have had new tyres fitted too about 10k ago (slight problem with a very large bolt).
Hope others are enjoying their VW's too .

Hi all just an update, after 152,000kms it's still going ok. Up until yesterday that is.
Darn ESP/ABS fault coming up causing it to drop back a few gears then settle back out to normal, but still with faults up.
I suspect it may be the ant colony which have infested my car, I thought I got them all.
I will try to have a look tomorrow.
I must say the panels do dent easy though.....

I'm looking to buy a 125TDI wagon, the 2011-2012's seem to be in my budget $20-25k.
I've been driving an old 00 mitsubishi magna and its comfy quite and not too bad to drive (the AT is frustratingly clunky and slow) the fuel economy is woeful at 14L per 100 in moderate free flowing traffic (it's ok on the freeway around 9-9.9L per 100)
We have a newborn so I've decided something more modern and safer would be ideal, hence why I'm seeking a passat. My weekend car is a bmw 335i which has a lot of mods and quite a bit of power.
I'm just seeing some feedback regarding is there anything passat specific that a prospective buyer should be looking out for?
My wife can't reverse park, so the optional auto park feature appealed to me do any of you guys have any experience with it? Also is the oem satnav ok to use? the system in my bmw is a tad clunky and slow (DVD based system - i believe the new systems are HDD based and much quicker?)
Do you guys follow the VW reccomended service intervals? I know the BMW intervals are way too long and with my car being a turbo car I change the oil every 5k kays.

Hi there drjekl fuel economy is good about 5-6 l/100kms which is nearly half of your old Magna's consumption. I get mine serviced as per the book but not at VW I use a guy who specialises in vw's in thomastown Victoria. I need the services two or three times a year.
I don't have satnav or park assist so can't comment on them. I find it easy to reverse park using the mirrors, maybe the wife could learn the technique. I do sometimes muck it up though but find it easy to park.
I guess if you buy one make sure the dsg has been serviced and fluid changes have been done. In my car the thermostat is sticking open and needs a new one (about $1000) they should get up to temp from cold in about 4-8 kms and mine has a faulty abs which is going in to be fixed next week. Apart from that I have not had a fault with it. VW still need to fix the dirty diesel issue yet, so not sure what will happen there.
