Thanks Kaanage. Nothing mentioned during delivery, but no real surprises there in my personal opinion. I will definitely mention to them when I am next speaking with them. Cheers

The new common rail TDI's *should* have solved the injector issue affecting the former PD125 cars in the MKV 2006-2009 era. The problem with the injectors seems to be oil eventually getting past the seals into the pizeo stack and shorting it out. Pizeo is new technology and they use this tiny crystal osscilation to control the injection, problem was in the former 125kw's the whole injector is inside the engine, bathing in oil. Common rail removes the injector to outside the engine itself, so it no longer has the oil contact. Biggest potential problem facing common rail is the high pressure fuel pump, and the fact the boys in the USA have been having a lot of problems with theirs. Seems to be concentrated in the USA though, so if i had a new 125 right now I wouldn't be too worried.

As for DPF's, they do indeed have separate Cats and DPF which is a much smarter idea than the first generation found on the PD MKV version. there is a cat right out of the turbo, then the DPF itself in the same spot as the former, then a subsequent big cat. Now if the DPF should clog down the line, you can just buy the DPF component without having to also pay for the expensive metals in the cat. A big improvement, but I do believe the problem now is some models also have a flap in the exhaust to aid regeneration, and this has been playing up on the yankie 125's - again may jusy be localised to them.

In all I think the new 125 will be a LOT better than the former version in terms of reliability, power delivery especially off boost, economy and DPF regeneration. common Rail was designed with a DPF in mind, the former PD was never designed to work with one.

Enjoy your new toy, just be sure to try and use BP or Caltex Fuels!

    Hi there again.
I have now had the car for just on 2 weeks and all seems to be going well, am still getting used to it as there are so many little things to distract me.
Have averaged 5.2 then 5.4 l/100kms on the first two tanks, yes I have been driving a bit with just over 2100kms up.
I am happy with the fuel use as I have been running it in ehem somewhat rapidly at times HE HE HE
It does go well, much better than I had expected. Am yet to use the "S" mode instead of the "D" mode.
Happy to hear that the injector issues are a thing of the past, I have not noticed any rattles anywhere yet. But the rearview mirror does vibrate a bit when the volume is turned up to 11 (so much liking the VW sound system again compared to the Pug's buzzy sound).
I have washed it twice already, not sure how long that is going to last I hate washing cars. Need to get it waxed to within an inch of its life so it just stays clean with a bit of a hose off, but the bugs are starting to hatch now and they are exploding all over the front of the car.
It sort of sounds like I was lucky enough to just want a black one as the dealer had one in stock so I ordered it on the 26th and drove off on the 31st (which included alll the lease paperwork/finance/boss signing off etc - oh and selling the old Pug).
Well not much to report otherwise may have to go for a drive to Alice for the day to visit my cuz then drive back .
    Marty.

Marty, Nanolex will be your best friend. Honestly this stuff is amazing. Mine (pearl black) even looks good when it's filthy - the gloss still shines through - and washing/drying is a 10 minute operation. Dirt and muck just doesn't seem to stick like it normally does (I use their shampoo too). This is the first time I've used this product and I'm very impressed with it.

Hmm Nanolex, it sort of sounds illegal or some sort of diet food are you sure you can put it on a car?
I may give it a go I like the 10 min wash and dry idea.
My car did the hot and stinky cooling fans running thing the other night just drove home from work (and sedately) after 75 km trip, I would have thought it should have done a burn (or whatever you call it) earlier in the trip home so it could finish it in time. But then again it may not be smart enough to know I am just about home so don't do a burn just yet.
Maybe they could plan that in the next model with GPS fitted so you could make other neighborhoods smelly rather than your own.....
    Marty.
    Still happy with car though.

    Hi Greg,

I am new to this forum and a new Passat owner. I ve been reading this thread about the fan running after drive. Maybe irrelevant, but mine is a MY10 TDi Wagon or MY10.5 (never knew if there really is a 10.5 anyway) and so may not be the same topic in a way that most of you is talking about the new B7.

My B6 does not seem to have the fan running after drive, but I am not sure if it is becos the B7 has the PDF regen function as you all are talking about.

Like to hear your thought on the followings.

I believe the injector issues may happen to those 2009 model, and my MY10 should still be fine as it is basically the same engine as the new MY11 B7 apart from the engine ON/OFF mode.

Although I only filled up a few times (5 I reckon) since I got the car (now 5300km). tried Safeway Caltex once, BP twice (i think) and Shell recently (2 times). I do record my own consumption figure as I dont generally trust the on car computer figures. Again depending how I drove it during refill, but according to my figures it seems BP goes a little bit futher by a slight margin. I am avg doing 7.3L/100km - 7.4 ish, and BP is on the 7.3 side. I will again post my figures done the track if ppl are interested. So you reckon BP is the go? (However, I do use BP Ultimate (petrol) solely on my other ride a Nissan 200SX)

    Cheers.

All seems well so far, filled it for the 4th time this week 1050kms on 64 litres.
Going by the readout I am getting about 5.8l/100, but after doing the math from the last fill it equates to about 6.1 l/100kms.
Must wash the darn thing when I get time and use that polish as recommended back on page 1 (it is going to be next month's job though).
Loving the car and happy with the oomph to pass cars (compared to the old 66kw pug - well no comparison).
    I am now approaching 4600kms.
PS I am still using BP.

5.8 is very nice, you must do a lot of highway/freeway driving.

Mine's quite thirsty, around 8.5l/100 at the moment but I sit in traffic a lot and don't use the Stop/Start.

BP is my preferred choice, but Caltex is a suitable replacement. Not a fan of Shell, but only due to a few rumours and dramas in the long distant past. I'm sure it's still a decent choice, but I'm happy to pay a premium for a fuel with cleaners.

Injector issue vanished with common rail, as now the delicate pizeo injectors are external to the oil that causes the problem. They may still eventually die, but it's likely to last the life of the engine as opposed to the PD internal injectors.

Now the potential problems seem to be the High Pressure Fuel Pump ( HPFP ) being delicate and there's a recall on the fuel lines in certain cars - in the USA at least.

Lot less problems that their ancestor I'm still driving!

dopey I do 155kms round trip to work and back so it is a lot of freeway driving @110 kms giving me better figures.
When I am heading to Melbs on the 100km/hr section the economy is even better.
Had to laugh after I first got it as I was babying it along a fair bit so the ecconomy was in the low 5's, my mate I share rides to work with drives one of the new Prius he gets about 5.2 l/100kms.................
Hang on, something is not right there is it? are they not meant to be the ants pants in ecconomy as opposed to a wagon weighing 1600kgs 125kw motor (I am glad I did not go the electric car way).

PS he does hammer the old prius though but still its a long way off 3.9 l/100kms.
