Would be really interested on the DIY RVC if you have the time to write it up. It's next on my list.

9w7 is the best kit but so far the fiscon is fine for me.
Yes the Fiscon works fine for the phone and worked well on the FIS and Nav for contacts and dialling but it's only mono and working through front speakers only for BT Audio streaming, no offence but it sounds worse than AM radio. 9W7 is a huge improvement in sound quality plus full text and MFSW control and Nav touch screen control for music.

You can set auto Bluetooth audio streaming on and off in RNS510 settings.

One question to Passat R36, you have no problems with the 16GB SD card. I thought that the RCD510's could only read up to 4GB. I currently have a 1GB and it is a little annoying but I would love to have more storage.
You need a later firmware version to support large SD cards, depending on how old your unit is it may not support large SD at all. I have a 500GB HDD running off the MDI but it's slow and clunky to navigate compared to voice control or touch screen of the iPhone.

I used to use SD cards just for recent stuff too but since the iPhone has free iTunes Radio and I can stream all my media from my home media server I don't need to copy anything to the car.

I have a 3GB mobile data plan and get through just over 2GB a month of mobile data. On longer trips I use my Telstra 4G wireless access point paired with the iPhone as it has a 8GB plan. It really does make music listening more seamless and simple with the 9W7 and the iPhone streaming.

I can choose from my iTunes iCloud collection, iTunes Radio, my media server running jriver/jremote or buy and play new stuff straight off iTunes. It really is a new more convenient way to listen to music!

Yeah Passat R36. I am actually in the throws of purchasing a reversing camera. Gonna attempt to install myself once I get it. I just have to work out which side of the car to pull all the cords down, that's all. I'm hoping that it shouldn't be too hard but I really haven't done any googling yet on installation of it.

Yes, you are right, 9w7 is the best as I said and iPhone IS much faster in any aspect. Browsing the music on the large SD card sometime is a nightmare. Maybe I should connect my old iPad Classic to the MDI. Will the iPod Classic drain the battery if I left it connected to the MDI all the time? Any experience? I have not tried yet. Cheers.

The airbags next to each side of the rear seat back rest worry me a lot. They are on the way of running cable down.

Not a problem. You must be driving it hard in 'S' mode. I know I have been on occassion.

I've left the iPod classic connected via MDI for extended periods and didn't even think of the potential for battery drain. I would hazard a guess that it is miniscule, but may rotate it with my USB MDI connection more frequently in the future.
