The new one is very conservative looking in comparison to the old one. It looks a bit bulkier too, IMO.
There are several improvements to the new model, but I think they've also gone backwards one or two. For example, the new models all get the driver alertness monitor, but they all lose the projector headlights and LED tail lights. I think the reversing camera is also no longer available.
The rear seat belt warning in the 2011 models might be handy for your kids though.
The Icelandic Grey is an excellent colour, but I am biased, owning an IG car myself. And what about colours? the Icelandic Grey looks nice - I've had a couple of black cars in the past, look great, but need regular washing, and now with 3 kids, don't have too much time to keep the wheels sparkling! And having owned a Euro car yourself, you should be well aware that the colour of the paint will have little bearing on how shiny the wheels are (brake dust FTL).
I don't think I'd bother with satnav - especially when it's available for far less after market. You can buy an RNS510 from eBay with the latest maps for around the $1000 mark.Extras - gees. there are a few available, but which ones would be handy?
Power tailgate - might be handy given that you have several kids.
Power front seats option pack - might be handy to have if you and your partner both drive and need to adjust the seats and mirrors frequently. The memory function is a little fiddly to use, but once set, stays linked to the keys.
Integrated child booster seats - depending on the age of your kids, it might be handy to have the inbuilt booster seats rather than using after-market seats.
All the other stuff (sunroof, driver visibility+assistance package, etc) are nice or even cool to have I think, but not really necessary.
