Is my Starter Motor Dying?

Hey Guys

Just wondering weather my starter motor for my Passat is going.

On some occasions, when I start the car, i turn the ignition to start and a weard sound happens, not loud cranks or anything.


The ignition system on the car is an MSD ignition. Ive been told that with the MSD coils sometimes jam and you have to restart the car.

What You guys think?

I reckon it must be a 30 year old 1.5L starter turning a high compression 1.9L motor.

Its obviously dying a death.

I reckon you could put an Audi one in that is designed for a 2.3L engine and that should fix it.
