Whilst it probably won't be as nimble as the GTI, due to it's size, I'm hoping that it will still be a sporty drive and more than capable of handling the twisty bits. It would be a shame if the handling wasn't there to match the engine.
Yeah, they're going to kill me.
I've been driving Mum's GTI (I paid the difference between a TDI optioned how we wanted and the GTI to ensure driving rights) while she's been overseas for the past 4 months and I have to go back to my Commodore half the time now... ouch!
I don't think the R36 will be as sporty as the GTI but it's certainly more useful for me and will hopefully sound better and go faster and be more comfortable to live in, so I'm happy with the decision to buy it... I'll just have to borrow the GTI every so often to punt it through some corners

I hope so too.....I drove the std v6 with lowered suspension and 18" wheels which is as close as I could get to the R36. Ride and handling was very good for a biggish car. One way to find out for sure I guess.........
has anyone heard from their dealer as to when they expect to have their first demonstrator vehicle available? sometimes they also get press cars before the car is available for purchase.
My order is a week 21 build so I won't be expecting my car until the end of August (at the earliest), but I'd love to get a test drive of a car before then if possible.
I can answer this question. This would be definitely after the official launch date as there were a huge waiting list on the R36. They won't have any demo available, not until they have cleared the waiting list. That's pretty much common sense. If you see a demo in the show room, you probably would take the demo instead of waiting bloody 6 months+ for a new one, wouldnt ya.
Delivered 9/6/08 : MY 08 (Mar 08 Build) Passat 125kw

Whilst the car I've ordered is being built to my specification, I have made sure that the final purchase decision is subject to a test drive. So if I can get a test drive before my car arrives (August) I'll know whether to stick with the order or go for an A6.
I'm taking an A6 3.0 TDI quattro for a test drive tomorrow. Slightly different proposition but still an interesting option for a family car.
Does the 3.0 TDI come in an A6 wagon? I don't think it did when I looked, so the closest alternative was the Allroad... but it costs far more than a bloody Q7, and we have one of those already...!
