Spoke to VW service person. He told me they are investigating and will report to headoffice to see what they say about the warranty as it has expired 2 months ago. He advised that it looks like an engine replacement but he said it as if it's not a whole new donk drop-in but more like replacing a whole lot of major engine parts including the alternator. (do they call this an engine replacement?)

Anyways. I'll know more next week.

    - They told me they will be relocating my car to VW either today or tomorrow. (but today is now gone so i guess tomorrow or friday)
    - I will mention about the recalls with this engine in US etc tomorrow when I get a call. (I did already mention about underspecced bolt issue on Tuesday however)
    - No sign of any possibility for a loan car
    - No call from Toyota manager / principle / customer relations manager about the incident I had with the sales rep on Tuesday even though I was promised on Tuesday and also Today that I'll get a call.
    - I don't expect to see my car for at least 3-4 weeks from now and could be longer.

So I buy a car, drive it for 4 weeks, then it's out of service for 4+ weeks. Great.
I bought my Passat in October and soon after that DSG failed and early this year coolant started disappearing and dealer replaced cylinder head,it took about 5 weeks, then i got my car back only to find that they've overfilled the engine with oil(lack of power and oil leaks)so it went back and looks like another 4 weeks for a part from Germany. So since Feb 22nd till today I only had my car back for one week, but at least they've provided me a loan car.

That's some car you got there. WOW. If that was a brand new car, I would be demanding a replacement. =P

    Quick Update
    - VW told me they are going to replace the whole engine. Yup, a new donk. Not bad. But it will take 2-3 weeks from now. =(
    - They are just waiting for VW headoffice to give them the go ahead for this job as the car is 2-3 months out of warranty.
(well, if VW doesn't fix it under their warranty, I guess Toyota will have to cop the cost as they legally sold me the car)

leather, sat nav, electric seats plus all the standard equipment really nice car especially on long trips and awesome fuel economy but i don't think I'll ever go VW again,it just been a nightmare .I'm wandering if anyone on this forum had a Passat for at least a year or 20000km that didn't have any problems

good luck jakiman, mine has done 35,000km with zero problems apart from occasional drink of oil. Unfortunately any car brand had have good ones and bad ones.
