I'm also assuming that the standard "10 speaker" system is
bass, midrange and tweeter in front doors and a mid and tweeter in rear doors?
Exactly what I found... the bass and midrange just disappear to mud once you push it a little. But, hey, one man's poison...

Yes, the std is a 3way setup in each front door and a 2 way in the rears.

Jesus! When I turn my standard system up, it gets louder than I would ever be able to tollerate for long periods of time before distorting and I have the bass and treble both pretty high. I feel old listening to you guys! hahaha... Feeling old at 29 is not a good thing!

I also like that I can change the individual output levels of the speakers to make it feel like I'm in the centre of the sound rather than to one side.

for a stock system it's OK, but some change will work wonders... loudness isn't what I want...

The plastic cover pulls off and the amp is held in place by 2 allen key bolts. Theo at GT Auto Sound (SA) only discovered this when the new amp was 'fired' up and there was no noise. The standard was then found by following the speaker wiring. The standard speakers are fine until you go mad with the volume, not sure yet whether that's a failure of the standard amp or the speakers. Will know more when the external xovers are installed. Btw also installing the VW MMI, which I am advised is very good. cheers pj

Hehehe, didnt want to try and pull the cover off - took the battery cover off the other day and took me ages to get it back on!

Yep and the battery is a big bastard. Like you I wouldn't have tried to take the cover off either the amp or the battery. But the 'pros' seem to know how to do it without damaging the connectors.

Good work! glad it's all going your way, Austral seem to be doing the right thing by you - good on them ("under new management" perhaps? )
I'll bet $$$ your new system will sound better than the stocker.
