Or can I use one of these with my old iPod Classic?

Hi Folks,
I just bought a 130TDI MY13.5. According to the manual the MDI will accept MP3, WMA, OGG and AAC file formats.
All of my music is currently stored in iTunes on my Mac in either MP3 or M4A formats. I have copied a few songs to a USB stick and I’m able to play the MP3 tracks but not the M4A tracks. That agrees with what the manual says.
So I used the “Create New Version” function in iTunes to create an AAC version of an M4A file. However, when I copy it to the USB stick it still appears as an M4A file.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Do I have to convert all my M4A files into MP3?
Or can I use one of these with my old iPod Classic?

Hi Jack,
MP3 is the most universally compatible format for music. Unless you have a particular reason, MP3 is your best bet. I understand that some of the other formats may have better reproduction, but for my ears the benefits don't outweigh the incompatibilities.
I stream via Bluetooth but also have the MDI cable. FYI, the cable in your link is the old 30 pin cable and is incompatible with the iPhone 5 / 5S
Thanks Amalgam. I guess I should bite the bullet and convert to MP3. The cable in the link will fit my old iPod Classic. I'm just not sure if the MDI will be able to control the iPod. My old iPhone 3 doesn't have enough memory to store my iTunes library. For that reason I'd prefer to use the iPod+cable over the iPhone+Bluetooth.
MDI and Ipod classic works no issues on my car... No conversions required... Bought the cable off fleebay... Rcd510
