I'm led to believe that they are pretty much throw out items. New is 30.5mm and replace is 27mm.
Hi guys,
Pretty much what's in the title -- has anyone had any experiences with machining the stock R36 rotors?
I've read a few things regarding the relative 'softness' of the stock rotors, but wanted to see if anyone here has had any luck.
Cheers

Yep, VW advises replacing due to low wear limits, they estimate @ pad replacement rotors will be down to wear limit. Ofcourse you can always machine them if confident/at your own risk.
Turf them, they're a consumable.
Machining them sheds thousands of klms of life off them, leaving them highly prone to cracking and warping.

Replace them with RDA slotted & dimpled disks - they're very close to the OEM prices and these ones look way better!

Very interested to see what happens here as i would say that i will be up for new rotors and pads sometime in the next six months as it looks like there is a decent lip on the outside edge

Yeah, I was looking at something similar. Although I think the rotors I was looking at were the DBA2809S.
As far as the pads, I was tossing up between the QFM HPXs and a set from Remsa. Read a few pros and cons about each so I haven't gone through with it just yet.
What's the squeal and dust like with the ATEs (from your experiences)?
absolutely no squeal and the dust is almost non existent. i have only done about 200klms though with them. i would go with the QFM over the Remsa. had no issues with them but the remsa were terrible in the dust dept.
cheers
