    Locked out of Passat B6

This appeared on the Rosstech (VagCom) list this morning — he's obviously not too bright or he'd have thought first, but it'd be good to help him out. If the Passat battery lives where it does on my Golf, getting to the terminals with the bonnet shut would be a work of art.

"I locked the doors on a 2010 Passat B6 and removed the car battery for charging. Closed the hood after removing the battery.

When I tried to open the door with the plastic key, the door handles would not release the door even though the plastic key turned.

Now I am locked out with the fully charged battery outside.

How do I get the doors to unlock if the plastic key would not work ?

    Help !"

Followed closely by an 'oh *****' moment, no doubt?

This is the emergency key inside the 'cartridge', right?

It could be that the lock mechanism is broken, or the key is the wrong one for the lock - most modern door lock mechanisms are designed to freewheel if the wrong key is used.

Being a 2010, it'll still be under warranty, and if it's an Australian one, it should have VW Roadside Assist membership as well. I'd be ringing them for assistance.

    Break the LHF window.

    They're only $90 or so.
