Probably have to change half the computer modules in the car to make it work.

I was in the USA a few months ago - one of the staff had a VW with no key hole in the door and a start button
I was wondering what happens when your battery dies - how to open the door to get to the bonnet release
(I'm sure VW will have thought of this)

There is a cap in the end of the door handle that you can remove and use a key in it There was also an article on the GTI forum about how to fix that problem

The system is called KESSY. Retrofit would be possible however require programming by dealer, especially immo modules etc.

you need to put in all the harness to four doors, change door handles, add kessy computer etc etc. there was an entire loom and all modules on german ebay a little while ago abut I gave up, too much work.
