K04 Installation in B5 ~ Australian spec for stock injector duty cycle.

    Hey,
I am coming to terms or trying to, with the pros and cons of upgrading the K03 in my B5 wagon which is still working, to a K04-015 turbo.

Among the other possible or necessary upgrades for a successful K04 DIY installation, I need to consider what the stock B5 injectors are capable of.

I have been told that US spec B5s will limit stock injectors to 16.32ms but that European spec vehicles are not and that European B5 injectors duty cycles can be as high as 26ms. Doesn't anyone know whether Australian B5 injectors are limited or not?

Or does that no longer matter if my ECU has been chipped to a sedate 190HP?

I have a Ross-Tech VAG-COM and could go out onto road to read the the injector codes under maximum engine load but wonder if any one here might know and could spare me the trouble?

My notebook also doesn't have a battery capable of holding charge and I don't (yet) have a 12V notebook power adapter.

Hey Dav, maybe I can help here, In terms of Up grade to K04. If your K03 is working and you stick in a k04, nothing will happen performance wise.
(If you change injectors / fuel pressures away from the Current recommendations for that tune - stock or aftermarket you will probably run slower and use more fuel, and possibly ruin your bores with raw fuel washing away the oil)
Until you change your programming to suit,

aeb USA ecu limit fuel to about 16ms yes, My Nuespeed K04 tune for an AEB limits at 21ms.

Is your ECU aftermarket chipped for the K03? if so, you allready know that you dont want to be running a K04 with it, it'll most likely boost too high, (your chip thinks its a k03 ), there's a good chance you'll run out of fuel and possibly blow your engine.
So is that why you are asking about duty cycles? You might get away with an Adjustable Fuel pressure regulator and raise the fuel pressure slightly (My Nuespeed K04 program runs 5 bar with stock injectors)
but really, A K04 remap will be necessary if you want to unleash the K04, a lot of tuners (APR etc) who sell the K03 files have an discounted upgrade program.
As for duty cyc;e, A few K04 tunes ask that you raise your fuel pressure and keep stock injectors. If you want to just fit an K04 inplace of a failing K03 then thats fine, use stock ECU but you wont get any more power. But dont run a K04 on a chipped k03 tune.

Your injector duty cycle is limited by your current fuel map (chip tune)
    Hope this helps
