    K&N panel filter

Hey guys thinking about installing a K&N panel air filter in the R36 in the hope of getting a little more induction noise. Interested in hearing from anybody running one in theirs.
Have read lots of posts on people claiming that the oil can damage air flow meters and so on, what are peoples experiences? I personally have been running one in my GTR for the past 100,000 kms with no ill effect.

    Cheers

Depends on the type of MAF the R36 uses - I have no idea. Oil sure can kill MAF's though and given the cost of any VW part I wouldn't want to risk it

From my experience with other cars, a higher flowing panel filter won't give you any noticeable induction noise increase compard to the stock panel. It will however (and K&N's are really good at this) let a whole lot of crap into your engine which finds its way into your oil. Get your silicon levels checked after 10 000 kms and you'd get a surprise.

If you must, get a good quality filter that is both high flowing and has excellent filtration - BMC are an example. To really get a nice note you'd have to replace the whole airbox with something else and personally I think it's not worth it.

I've been thinking of getting a panel filter for my GTI as well. Also to increse the induction noise.
I've been reading abit online about the MAF and possible damage to it, so I was interested in this topic. I think I might start up a thread in the Tuning section to get more people to weigh in on it.
