All MKV PD TDI 125kw engines across the board, even the similar era 2.0 and 3.0 Audi TDI's have the same injector issue. I'd have a 08 3.0 Audi TDI otherwise.....

103 or common rail is the only safe bet.

Hi All, I am new to the VW Forum and have a Passat CC TDI that I took delivery of in May 2010 (Feb 2010 build date). I guess I biggest concern in reading all of these issues and not being very mechanical minded is " does my car fall in the catagory of injector problems". I am not sure if mine is common rail or not, I did say that I am not mechanically minded. Any assistance here would be appreciated.

PM me the engine codes from the service manual "computer printed sticker". The "old" Passat TDI problematic engine is the BMN, which I believe was phased out 2009 in most 125kw diesels, so my bet is you are fine.

Unfortunately we were caught up in this with our 2008 125kw TDI Passat. To complicate matters we have moved and now live almost 700km from the nearest VW service centre.

    Our story unfolded like this.
Exhaust gas warning light came on. Took it to a local mechanic (no VW one here). He ran diagnostics that showed there was a fault with the front passenger door lock. He phoned VW who were not helpful and very guarded about giving out information. Fault was reset. Light came back on again after leaving workshop. Took back next day, VW helpful this time and said door lock fault common and this light gets triggered.

Had to go to Adelaide (700km drive), light still on. Arrived no issues. Whilst there diesel particulate filter light came on followed slightly later by engine light. Took vehicle to VW workshop. They replace exhaust pressure sensor which cleared all faults.

Drove the 700km home the next day and about 20km from home the engine light came on and the car died. RAA towed to workshop. Workshop said there was a diesel injector fault but they had absolutely no idea what to do.

The good news part of my story is that the VW workshop in Adelaide said it sounded like to known injector issue with our model. they suggested calling VW assist even though we no longer members as the injectors have a 7 year warranty. After some confusion VW assist agreed to pay to get our vehicle to the nearest workshop (700km) and fix the fault. We had to pay to get the car back.

Disappointed that VW did not do a recall but happy that I was only 20km from home when it all went wrong.

Not being mechanically minded, does anyone know if this should all be OK now? All injectors were replaced and the wiring loom. I have lost confidence now in a vehicle I love.

    Considering buying MY13 Passat
Happy to know VW will come to party, even if some arm twisting is required.
Also that apparently common rail is considered more reliable.

BUT, I think will invest in basic mobile phone, just in case!

    Also the extended warranty!

My first VW (MY 08 Tdi 125kw - travelled 61500 Kms) love it until yesterday. Very very similar to the threads on this issue.

A family day trip to the country side (1.5 hours)

While driving home, car comes to a halt. Power cuts out, dash lights up like a Xmas tree, brakes turn to ****, power steering shuts down.

Racv comes...not much can be done. Car gets towed to the local compound.

Sounds like it needs injectors. Issue is the mechanic is not a VW approved dealer. Going to cost me a bomb to tow it back to melb from castlemaine.

Anyone know a good vw authorised workshop in the castlemAine area?

BTW - once I get this sorted, will be writing to VWA. I felt so unsafe with the breakdown. Not to mention my wife and young child. Was travelling at about 90 Kms and to not have control is piss poor!

You will find that it won't just be VW where you will have no/limited control. Most cars these days, if you turn the power whilst moving then you will lose control over power assist for brakes, steering etc. Still the injector thing sucks.

Hey, just thought would let you know that our 2008 Passat 125 had the same thing happen to it last week, just on 70,000Kms.
The wife was driving and the thing just stopped. Luckily had somewhere to pull over on the side of the road.
But a bit disconcerting to see this happen with no warning.

The dealer replaced all injectors as part of good will (out of warranty) so least that is something. Will say though, seems to drive smoother now with the new injectors. Lets hope that's it (touch wood), as she has been a reliable old girl up till now.

Apparently there is a recall on this now? Just heard dealer mention it.
