    Noooice

Looks the biz.... any one that doesn't like a B7 is entitled to their opinion (as wrong as that may be ) but I think they look good! and will be a shape that stands the test of time... (yeah ok so I am not exactly an independant observer with one on order).

So does the near side mirror tilt when reversing? It used to be a feature listed in B6 flyers, but not on the B7... and I forgot to look on the test drive... hope it didn't go the way of the brolly holder...

Yep FSI 220, I believe the passenger's side mirror tilt can be set up and automatically activated through the MFD. Haven't tried it though. Will play with it after work.

wow, I'll have to check that out too. I haven't taken any notice to see if it's doing it.

I worked out the Safe Locking message. It's to remind you that if you just use the one click to lock the doors from your remote when you leave the car, it activates the deadlocking, which means if you've left anyone inside the car, they won't be able to get out! Probably a good reminder to have. You can set it not to dealock by pushing the button twice (I think).

Re the NANOLEX, the car got rained on today sitting under a tree so gave it a wash this afternoon - and it was almost a pleasure! The rinse seemed to take most of the dirty marks off, but gave it a gentle wipe over using the Nanolex wash and then a rinse. But the most amazing part was the drying. I bought (on recommendation) a large microfibre cloth to do the drying rather than a chamoi, and I kid you not, there was so little water left on the car that even at the end I couldn't ring any water out of the cloth! It took about 45 seconds to completly dry the car totally streak free! At that rate I could give it a tub every afternoon! Awesome stuff!

    Howdy Maxim

Do you need to strip the factory wax off to apply the nanolex?

I remember the days when I could spend a weekend washing, polishing (day one), carnuba waxing + interior (day two) my car...

Two kids and a creaky house full of chores does that too you... I need to be able to throw the hose at it as I water the garden (water tank of course) with a proper hand wash once evey couple of months...

    Cheers John

I used the Nanolex paint cleaner that appears to be some sort of white spirit. I did that very thoroughly and I think it would have removed any wax the dealer had put on.

WOW just looking at your options list, that's going to be a fully loaded Passat John! I was going to order the sports pack, but unfortunatley couldn't wait.

Thanks Maxim, put it this way.... I was prepared to loose my place in the queue for that sports pack.... going to keep the car for 8 years so I might as well get it right!

Essendon Volkswagen just sent me a letter outlining the complimentary checkup:

We recommend dropping in between your first 2,000 and 4,000 kms for an oil check and top up (if needed). This is free of charge and no booking is required. Then, your service intervals will be every 12 months or 15,000 kms- whichever comes first.

I'll actually be taking in my B7 Passat in about two weeks to sort out some silly rattles (only covered by VW Warranty in the first 1,500 kms of the car's life), but it's good to see a dealer looking after their customers.

Any other Passat TDI owners been told or contacted about this free checkup?

Just curious of the build quality on your new Passat. Generally good on mine, but there is an annoying intermittent rattle coming from somewhere around the C pillar on the driver's side. Not sure what it is ie. door, seat, roof lining or rear parcel shelf? I'll tell the service department when I take it in for its 1500km inspection. Haven't done anywhere near that, so there's time to pick up any other anomalies should they start to surface.

no problems so far, seems solid, no rattles (very quiet inside), fit and finish is excellent.
