    Hey Benno,

    Thats what I'm talking about!.

How much are they charging you for it? I assume you are buying it through Camberwell VW?
Barloworld wanted almost $400 bucks for the ipod adapter without all the functionallity of what you have described.

If it's anything like the rediculous price of premuim Bluetooth I think I will stick with the AUX in cable for $20 bucks!

Ahh well now thats the trick. I bought the cable (well ordered it as part of the deal i did on the R36 deal) and the sales person (who doesnt work there now) was so keen to deal the deal even after i shafted him somewhat. Anyway as we added it all up I had done my research and said I know in the US and Europe there is a ipod adpater out thats not the crappy cd changer style one that Macca has. He said he knew of new parts coming out soon (which the new guy confirmed as March this year).

The price he quoted was 400 for me as well but I think you can get it much cheaper than that from O/S. The problem them becomes getting an installer to come and get it in for you. They need access to the VW programming tool I believe so that means if you can fiund a dealer to do it then its all good.

I am due to get the car from VW Camberwell in mid to late Feb and once that occurs I intend to nail down this ipod issue and find out when they shall fit it for me. I dont intend to pay anymore for it so i would have thought you should be able to get the dealer to do a similar thing for you.

    WOW update time.

Okay for those looking for the new ipod adapter it has finally been released in Australia (as of 27/1/2009). The dealers have just received a notice so they all know its avaliable.

Its compatible with RCD 310, RCD 510 as well as RNS 510 radios.

The cost is around $ 400 (not inc. installation)for the adapter and then you need to pick the correct cable your after.

    Adapter to Mini-USB
    Adapter interface to USB
Adapter to iPod (for vehicles MY09 onwards)
    Adapter to 3.5 mm jack

The cable is around $90 and comes out in the glove box of the passats.

Hope this helps you all get what your after.

I had heard of people doing that in the Golf's. They replaced the current boxes/compartments they had there and had one that had the Media In slot coming out there. Not sure if you can do that with passat. maybe the dealer/fit team at the vw dealership can hook you up with some way to extend it and run it there.

Ohhh p.s do people need part numbers if so let me know what you need.

Hmmm, what about just burning MP3s to CD (or copying to SD card) and playing them in the RCD510? Does this give you the title and artist info too? Can you use the steering wheel controls?

If so, then I'd rather just stick to that and save some money. I haven't got a huge music collection, so MP3 CDs and a 4GB SD is enough for me.

Also, my wife has an iPhone, what happens if a call comes in when connected with the iPod connector?

okay mate i can answer a few of the questions. Easiest first. This will give you full infomation (name of song artist etc.) so if you connect your ipod it will be as above and give you full control via touch screen as per ipod/iphone menu.) if a call comes in you need bluetooth as it will not connect the call via the stereo otherwise.

playing via sd card should give me the mp3 id details (so yes track name and artist I believe).

Thanks bennobee. Jayse has also confirmed the SD card function.

Ouch, the bluetooth option is another $800. I think I'll just stick to the SD cards since we only have small iPod and music collection. Cheers and thanks for being so knowlegable!

    (BTW, DTV?)
