Gracias ST --- they should be in stock at dealers or need import ? $60 for a cable !!!!

I rang Microsoft tonite and asked why the upgrade in the US to Windoze 7 is $219 yet the same M$oft store in OZ charges $419. Almost double the price !!!! and the AUD is at 91 USD !!!! The answer was diff prices for diff regions Sounds like ripoff to me so I told them to get stuffed and I would download a pirate version instead

I forgot to mention it is a online download - so in both cases there is no media or packaging involved -- same software !!!

Google the part number you'll find some places overseas who sell it cheaper.... dealer threw in mine for free, cos they screwed up elsewhere in the order LOL.

Picked up the MDI iPhone cable from Barloworld Mascot today. Works a treat, even had an old iPod lying around that I can use in there, so now have an 80gb media player.

I paid $86 for the cable, recognising that I could probably do better overseas however I "needed" to play with all the gizmos now...

    Thanks for your advice.

Question, I have not bothered plugging my iPhone into the MDI (not much use in the glove box) however I do have an iPod that I have stuck in there. I noted, that even with the ignition off, the iPod was still powered up and was quite warm to touch. The car had been off overnight.

Is the iPod meant to be off when Media is not selected?

Also, when playing media or even radio, when I turn my iPhone on to chem an email, it engages Blue Tooth audio, resulting in a 5 second pause to the music playing. This normal?

Anyone with an R36 in the South Sydney area that has time to run me through some of the best setups, I would be most grateful if we could meet up. PM me if you are interested in meeting up with another enthusiast (no, I am not a stalker or any other sort of weirdo... that I am aware of...)

    Thanks

just a warning for devices that "stay on" when you leave them plugged in... I saw this on another site today.

This fire resulted from leaving an Iphone charger/docking station plugged into the car outlet. It overheated and started a fire, while parked in our garage. PLEASE unplug anything you have in your car outlets once you turn off your car! We were VERY fortunate that we found the fire, at 11pm, before going to bed and before it spread to the house.

That kinda sucks... I would have thought the whole point of having it hid away in the glove box was so you could leave it there...

I had better just save the important playlists to the hard drive.

Good advice though... thinking I better run downstairs and unplug it.

I thought the same thing re: the iphone not much use unplugging it all the time from the glove box and use a seperate one as well (80GB video).

I'm not exactly sure but would say the ipod plugged into the MDI will remain powered on whenever the head unit is on sleep mode (ie, I expect that it would be on for 20mins after leaving the car but don't know about all night but may come on a few times but always plays from the same point etc). It may mean disarming the sensors (button on the B pillar) and sit in the car for 1/2 hr or so and take note if it turns off. I haven't noticed if mine is hot to the touch but didn't think so.

That fire looks a bit extreme- what did they have plugged in, some after market add on? I dont think it would happen with the MDI being a factory kit, and i haven't had a fire nor did i when i had the alpine and ipod dock, always left the ipod in the glove box. They probably wired something up wrong on that quoted car. The 12v cig lighters in my car aren't even powered without the ignition on.

Would be worth asking the dealer anyway.
