The advanced Bluetooth kit needs an RSAP capable phone, which the iPhone is not. Google "iphone rsap"...
The basic VW bluetooth isn't worth the money, as it doesn't integrate with anything in the car (i.e. RNS510, dash display), and is very limited functionality. Don't bother.
I have ordered my R36 w/o Bluetooth and am planning on fitting one of the Fiscon units (
www.kufatec.de). I have also ordered the MDI unit to enable full iPod functionality for my iPhone with the RNS510 (artist display, etc).
EDIT - it's this one that I am getting:

It also supports A2DP, which the iPhone will from software 3.0, due later this year, so it will then also play audio over Bluetooth.
