    Question iphone and bluetooth

    Hi,
I have a new MY09 Passat Wagon with RNS510 and Bluetooth on order. I will also be updating my mobile phone and am considering the iphone. Does anyone know if the iphone works OK with the Passat's Bluetooth device?

The advanced Bluetooth kit needs an RSAP capable phone, which the iPhone is not. Google "iphone rsap"...

The basic VW bluetooth isn't worth the money, as it doesn't integrate with anything in the car (i.e. RNS510, dash display), and is very limited functionality. Don't bother.

I have ordered my R36 w/o Bluetooth and am planning on fitting one of the Fiscon units (www.kufatec.de). I have also ordered the MDI unit to enable full iPod functionality for my iPhone with the RNS510 (artist display, etc).

EDIT - it's this one that I am getting: http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_i...VW--Skoda.html

It also supports A2DP, which the iPhone will from software 3.0, due later this year, so it will then also play audio over Bluetooth.

    blimey sounds the works.

i would be happy if it reliably just let me take and mke calls!

its a hit and miss affair with both my ( nokia e61) and wifes nokia (basic something) - sometimes it just doesnt work and everything must be reset.

pretty hopeless - rip off for $800.00!

That's why I said above - don't bother with it... waste of money. You can get the Fiscon unit from Kufatec shipped to Aus at current exchange rates for about $800, so similar price to the factory (very) basic Bluetooth which is completely crap.

It's apparently easy to fit - pull out the stereo unit from the dash, pull the plug out of the back and fit the Fiscon's connector in between the stereo and the cable, locate the box in there somewhere, run the mike to the top of the steering column.

You need to get VW to do a VAGCOM code change, but ask your dealer nicely they'll do it no problems. Or find someone with VAGCOM to do it for you...

At the comparable price with the hugely better functionality, I know what I'm going to get...

Perhaps if anyone else wants one I should do a group buy, may be able to save a few $... Thoughts anyone?

Please be more specific in which VW bluetooth kit you're bagging out They've moved on from the EgoTalk/Parrott junk, and are now using Nokia kits. Also, the Premium kit is on it's way. It can interface with the instrument cluster, as well as the radio unit.

In regards to A2DP, due to the way the car is wired, it will only play in Mono, and with very poor sound quality.

The Nokia kit that VW currently offer is very limited functionality. To be honest it's probably not as good as a properly installed Parrot. And the premium kit that is on its way will only work with phones that support rsap, thus ruling out a significant number of phones. The VW dealer I'm buying my car from said to me that the basic one is crap, and the premium one they can't bring in cos of the limited phone support and issues.

You pays your money you takes your choice...

I can tell you straight up, that from a reliability viewpoint, the Nokia kits are far superior. We've not had a single one come back yet. I've not had any issues with pairing, either.

In regards to the premium kit, as at last month, it was all but signed off, ready to be released. I believe they were just overcoming a few marketing things. As for phone support, the list of capable phones is growing by the month.

The way VW sees it, is if you're just happy to use Bluetooth for it's sheer convinience, then buy the basic kit. If you want to step it up and use the steering wheel, instrument cluster, and radio unit to interface with your high-end smart phone, then buy the premium kit.
