i went stage 2+ with no front mount in brisbane temps no issue. that is a load of bollocks from apr trying to sell you a pricey intercooler.
Best you seek the advice of APR, because the one you posted up is about half the size of the stock one.

Ok what you go stage 2 wise fuel pressure pump dump pipe? Our heat in Adelaide hotter than you arnt we?
apr hpfp, forge twintake, awe dp, custom catback. this was in a gti with BWA engine.
Ok I got no idea what mine is
The stock intercoolers with the plastic end tanks are not as good as some people seem to suggest. They are quite big but last time I checked plastic was pretty good at retaining heat once it was soaked. The aluminium end tanks of a good aftermarket intercooler help disperse quite a lot of heat.
Most tunes are running 20 - 25psi and well out of the turbos efficiency range. One offshoot of that is extra heat.
Thankfully so long as your tuner keeps all of the factory safeguards in place the ECU is well equipped to deal with it.
Generally a timing map will be selected by the ECU based on intake temperature. The higher the intake temperature the less aggressive the timing will be.
At the end of the day it all depends on what youre after. Yes you can run without an intercooler. Its generally the last mod most people do. Will the car make more power more consistently with an upgraded intercooler? If the ambient temps are above 25 degrees then Id suggest yes.
Ok Thank you. Still don't know thinking might just do high fuel pressure pump and 3" dump pipe and 3" through 200 cell and leave it at that
