They have said on the news repots every time it floods up here in QLD that insurance will not cover you if you drive into flood water as you are breaking the law and thus, completely at fault.

Might be different down south but that is what i have heard.
It's been that way since the cyclone wiped out Innisfail.

Might want to check with the insurance company to be certain.

I work in the industry, and have never heard of that being the case. Motor Policies are "accidental damage" policies, and as such cover you for any damage which was not deliberate or excluded from cover (war, terrorism, racing etc.)

I have never seen a flood exclusion on a motor policy.

I am happy to be proven wrong, but this is just my experience.

NB. I have noticed a new exclusion on "some" insurers policies, which excludes damage caused by filling up with the wrong fuel (ie. putting unleaded in a diesel car). Something you oil burners should be aware of - I know of a claim where BMW 730d which was filled with unleaded - claim was $45,000.....

Insurance covered me when the same thing happened to me in a 318i.
This happened 8yrs ago, so i'm not sure if policy has changed on this matter.

    Cheers,

    Jayse.

My insurance company is covering me for this. The claim form even had a specific tick box for flood damage.

I can see how you could accidently do it.

I was caught on the F5 Northbound on Friday afternoon where the road widening construction is & the water was 300-500mm deep because the drainage wasn't in place. The Northern campbelltown Onramp had a 500mm deep x 10m wide river running across it. A lot of cars hit it doing about 80kph - I'm surprised they all stayed straight. You do not expect a river to be running across a main highway.

Sounds a bit strange, considering that in most accidents at least one driver is breaking the law, or at fault, (eg running a red, going through stop/give way signs, tailgating, etc, etc).. and coverage is still provided..

    Probable Writeoff!

Looks like my Passat will be written off.

The repairer's quote for a new engine (yes, new engine required!) is $26000!!!

I may be defecting to the Golf Gti forum guys - my employer picks up the fuel tab if I get a 4 star Green vehicle. I don't really need the full size sedan, so it looks like a bit of a no-brainer.

Before i go (will be posting similar question in the appropriate forum) what options are worthwhile on the MkVI? Should I get DSG again? Dynaudio? 18"s?

Cheers and thanks for the info / laughs!

    Fairways and greens...

    26k seems awfully expensive.

All the best with the new car.
Prepare for a 6 month wait for it though as delivery times have blown out due to massive demand for the mk6 and failures with toyota and honda.
