yep, the cable under the car to the starter motor is the go, this is what the RACQ did to my car when the battery died after I hadn't driven it for a couple of months.

Just for a laugh, I tried the "pop the cover off the door handle" entry method and it does work but the locks are definitely electric so a disconnected battery will be a show stopper!
I did note that if you unlock the doors this way the red LED on the door continues to flash so I assume the immobiliser is still active.

The immobiliser is deactivated by inserting the keyfob (or on other models inserting the key into the ignition) and as the car starts a transponder is powered up in the key that authenticates and a new code is written. If this process fails the car will stop a few seconds later and display a warning.
