Help: Installing LED strip in boot

I've got a 12V 0.3A 3.6w LED strip which I want to hard wire in my boot.

If I tap into the existing boot light (standard halogen) would it work, if so, will I need to keep the halogen light in to make sure no errors pop up?

I think that you will be right. I tapped 2 x 48led grids into both sides of the golf gti with no issue. I don't think the computer cares if your boot light is out. I also replaced by oem boot lamp with a led festoon bulb and that worked great.

    All good..

Connected LED straight to the factory boot light wires. Installed a switch too, the LED strip I got is brighter than the OEM DRL hence the need to install a bypass switch.

No errors, no light in the original housing.
