    Lance or 3Putt,

I want to get Phillips X-tremes for my Passat wagon on both low and high beam. Do I just get 2 lots of H7 pairs. or are they different globes. Can you tell me what part numbers I need to get for both high and low beam lamps

Dont let this stop you but, note that the globes in your headlights should be under dealer warrantee. If you change the globe with after market ones and they blow, the dealer will not replace the globe without charging, and they would replace them with standard factory types which suggest that both would need to be changed to avoid the difference in appearance.

The high and low beams are the same, so, yes, just get 2 pair of H7's. Better still, get the low beams first and then if you aren't happy with the result, you haven't wasted your money on 2 pair, just one. Havind said that, I am sure that you will NOT be disappointed.

I will definitely be getting 2 sets. I see I can get 2 sets from the UK for about 50 pound free delivery ($AU103). I will go and see how much they cost in Australia first though.

Doubtful they'd come under warranty anyway, as they're considered a consumable.
    Nothing to see here...

    Lightbulb Bright Idea

    Hi All

I found the same with my Passat. I ended up fitting Narva Cool Blue globes to the low beam (with a Narva daytime running light kit) which makes them quite acceptable. They give a white light and are adequate for town use.

For the high beam I ended putting in a 35W HID kit (6000 K globes). Brilliant! I was tempted to go for 55W HIDs but I still can't figure out the legality of the upgrade and don't want to blind anyone or draw too much attention to myself. I've read the forums, read the relevant ADRs and asked my auto electrician and still can't figure it out. I reckon if it's that hard to work out the answer then I should be fairly safe.

Anyway, although the focus isn't quite as good as the old driving lights on the previous vehicle, I can now see where I'm going on the open road. It's amzing how much whiter and brighter the HIDs are compared to the Cool Blue's.

All the "Cool Blue" or "Ultra White" globes actaully put out less useful light than an ordinary halogen globe of the same wattage, as the blue filter actually reduces the light output.

For better output from H7 halogen globes I would go for Phillips x-treme, Osram 65W rallye (a H9 burner on a H7 base) or Osram Nightbreaker.

It is probably illegal to put HIDs into hi beam lights, but seeing as you should dip whenever they shine at another car I don't see there are any "dazzling" issues with the conversion. Lo beam conversions are a different proposition altogether, as many of these do dazzle other drivers quite badly.
