You might find that there is an ignition amplifier that sits near the wiper motor. Maybe the wiper motor is knocking the wiring to the amp when it's working??

I am having some gremlin problems with the Little Beastie. I think it may be electrical. I have been out driving and a couple of times through a heavy rain shower, the engine seems to cut in and out, when I accelerate there is no power. But as soon as the rain is not so heavy everything is OK. I have noticed that the rubber shroud covering some wiring next to the wiper motor has perished, is this part of the ignition system? I also found a bare wire coming of the coil. I wrapped both heavily in tape. I suppose I wait to test out my handiwork when it rains again. I won't risk tipping water on it.

Yeah the TCI trigger box sits in there mate and they hate the rain. The current will be tracking all over the place
