Angry Glare from Faux Chrome gear lever surround

    Hi all,

Has anybody solved the maddening glare from the shiny chrome insert around the gear lever? I remember seeing a thread where brushed aluminium surrounds could be purchased. Mind you, fitting could be a drama!

Doesn't work all the time, depending on the angle of the sun, but try popping out the little storage trays below the centre air vents. Crude, but effective, particularly if the glare is coming from the windscreen.

If there's a better way out there, I'm all eyes too.

Microfibre Towel I keep in the car for dusting - looks terrible but is effective.

also crude - but could you remove the insert and put a film of opaque contact or similar over it, or even spray it with a matt clear coat?

www.oempl.us sells the matt finish bits. Also try spare parts at your local VW dealer, I believe the new V6 Highline has it as a matt finish, also the matching DSG shift knob.

    do you mean This kit

It does not replace the shiny bit around the selector... The "matt" silver is not the issue...

It really is a serious problem. It drove me to distraction in the Tdi and now in the '36 too!!!

I drive alot of long distances in Western NSW and often need to drive on very straight roads, so when I am driving in a particular direction and the sun happens to be in the wrong place, the glare is in my eyes for hours at a time.

I just end up putting a cloth or something over the chrome bit, but this shouldn't be required in a modern car!!!

But, I'm still not going to give it back

agree this is a silly oversight by the designers... perhaps they dont see the sun as often as us Aussies LOL

I want a good solution too... the best one so far suggested was to put some matt contact or sim on the offending part...
