    FYI: MY10 R36 Dynaudio Amp Wont P-n-P

    Hi All,

I had a chance to have a look at the standard amplifier in my MY10 R36 Wagon and took some photos.

Unfortunately, the Dynaudio Retrofit (Plug and Play, done by member nermal on 2008 R36) wont work me. Another member
Timlin had trouble to plug in his Dynaudio Amp as the plugs are different on his (2009?) R36.

So it looks like VW changed amp wiring design between model years. Maybe VW did not want people retrofit the optional Dynaudio. The change probably happened when VW updated the cluster. This may also explain why he Dynaudio Retrofit Kit comes the wiring looms(due to the plug change).

For 2008 R36 owers, they are lucky as Dynaudio is plug and play.
For 2009 and 2010 R36 owners, Dynaudio Retrofit isn't an easy job at all. Dynaudio Retrofit wont be on my mod list anymore. I will be just getting used to the standard system.

Here are the photos I took, note that the amp is square shape which is different to Dynaudio amp.
    Part Number 5K0 035 456

I'm really sorry to hear that =(

I'll update the guide to help prevent others from getting caught out.

Hopefully, we kind find out a way to make an adapter plug (if wiring is compatible).

5K0 is an interesting vehicle ID, any idea what it refers to?

BTW - It looks like someone on a German forum had the same problem...Umrüstung VW Sound auf Dynaudio Seite 2 : Ich beabsichtige ebenfalls mein rns300 etwas zu pimpen... d...

They talk about making an adapter, lament about the potential of 2 wires "missing" from the standard harness, track down pin assignments, then appear to have success creating an adapter.

I'll take a closer look at pin assignments later to see what the differences are..

Wow... this is bad news. I've just invested a reasonable amount of money on the new Dynaudio amp and as stated above, I have the long black multi-pin plug and the Dynaudio have what looks like two smaller grey plugs.

The OEM amp is ok, just, but the Dynaudio amp is quite amazing, so its begging to be upgraded.

****... An adapter is technically possible, but the parts would be very hard to source.

Plus, the OEM amp says 8 x channels and the Dynaudio amp is 10 x channels. Does anyone know what the two extra channels are for?

Adapter may be possible but there is no room to put the adapter...

I'm now starting to think that a new, high quality 3rd part amp might be the path of least resistance now. The German forum, although in jumbled English, seems to finish up with one guy frying his front tweeters, and getting that very expensive smoke to come out of the new amp.

I don't wanna be that guy.

I'll go shopping tomorrow and see what I can find - in the mean time, I now have 1 x Dynaudio amp to sell!

find a donor car, cut the harness off, take the sock off the factory amp, then wire them according the pin assignment, just a thought...

not sure if the extra wires in the photos make any sense.

You shouldn't have too much trouble selling the amp in the R32 forums - they don't appear to last long (on eBay either).. I hope you didn't pay too much for it =(

I feel bad, because all the research I did said it was possible and it worked flawlessly for me...

Don't feel bad for me, at least we know of another hurdle in this upgrade!

Theres a very good installer (FhRX Studios - Fhrx Studios Pty Ltd - Audio / Visual Connoisseurs. Free Shipping Australia Wide.) who I'll take the amp to and see if they can't make it work. If not, I'll buy one that does! At least these guys are VW/Dynsudio friendly as they sell their products, so thats a good start!

    Will advise!
