Smile Fuel economy - Very happy

I took the car for it's first long drive yesterday and the economy was great.

I thought 7.5lt/100km was good around town... I'm getting 5.8lt/100km on the freeway

V6 and a Lead Foot are Killing Me

    I get 7.8L/100km on trips.

    But 13-14L/100km round town!

It's great, isn't it Dave? Really comes into it's own on the freeway or even highways, rather effortless and relaxed thanks to all that torque, and of course it's great to see the fuel consumption figures drop, and drop, and drop.

And at the same time the distance to empty may still show over 1000km even if you've already done 150 or 200 ;-!!!!

Anyway, I love it. as you already know my best was a combined 6/100 (actual consumption, not computer) going up to Sydney via Gippsland, some city driving there and back along the Hume. Most impressive.

    Enjoy!

Love the economy, and that torque is fantastic. Got in my Mazda 6 the other day (wife hasn't decided which car to sell) and was amazed how asthmatic it seemed! Given its around 125kW and 2.3L running 95RON, you can't fault the modern TDi.
Now done 1600kms and only at 3/4 on my 3rd tank!

Is it just me or has my economy around town gotten better?

A short run to the school to get the kids would usually be a 8 to 9 lt/100km trip but after the "long" drive on the weekend the car easily settles into aroun 7.5lt/100km on such trips now.

Probably cleaned out the DPF properly.

I find that the soot burnoff by means of the engine management (increased exhaust gas temp) results in slightly higher consumption figures. That happens after some shorter distance commuting.

Longer runs with the rpms at around 2000 take care of that in a more economical way, and do reduce consumption for a short time.

    Just my $A 0.02.

Better go easy on that right foot!

Idunno... I hope it's less than my Commodore though!

Even just a tiny little bit less...
