Australian delivered passats do not come with the front light assist or high beam assist. you need to code it. go into controller A5, Byte 2 and ensure that it is set to 01. Once this is turned on then reboot the car. you turn the feature on now with a single push forward of the left stalk and a headlight type symbol will appear just above the odo. your high beams will now turn on automatically at 70km/h and turn off when it detects cars, street lights etc. the headlight switch also needs to be in auto mode. turning them to full on or parkers will disable this feature.

oh, the camera in the front is for lane assist, traffic sign recognition, high beam assist or sometimes known as front light assist and also for dynamic light assist.

you can turn on high beam assist/front light assist if you have the camera
you cannot turn on dynamic light assist unless you replace your headlights with the following models

gas discharge headlight with dynamic main beam light control (left-hand traffic only) - LEFT 3AC 941 043
gas discharge headlight with dynamic main beam light control (left-hand traffic only) - RIGHT 3AC 941 044

i have attempted to flick the byte for traffic sign recognition however it didn't recognise australian street signs.

Here is the coding for anyone who is interested

Dynamic Light Assist and Front Light Assist - Headlight replacement and Driver Assistance Package required at least for au delivered passat

    Controller A5, Byte 2, Check bit 1
    Controller A5, Byte 2, UnCheck bit 0

    Controller 09, Byte 11, Check bit 3
    Controller 29, Byte 29, Check bit 3

Front Light Assist / High Beam Assist

Controller A5, Byte 2, Un Check bit 1
    Controller A5, Byte 2, Check bit 0

I won't bother with traffic sign recognition unless i can get it to work.

Anyone in Wollongong NSW able to do the high beam assist coding. Always liked the sound of that feature as we do a lot of night driving, but unfortunately do not have access to the right equipment for coding. Never understood why they didn't activate it on Aust delivered Passat a with driver assist package.

i appreciate it booba, dont give a rats about those other smart axxxs.
i have a 2013 118tsi and have tried to have hid xenon lights fitted by an auto elec and the whole procedure was a complete disaster resulting in the upgrade not working and having to go back to what the car came with, but have since fitted higher output halogen globes.
would your FLA system work on my model??

unfortunately not. you don't have factory bi xenon hence you don't have driver assistance package and this is a pre requisite as you need the camera mounted behind the rear view mirror.

Managed to test out high beam assist / fla tonight.. it works pretty well. detected cars very well in dark roads and better lit roads such as motorways. very impressed.

Thanks for all your comments on this Booba. I did not ask the dealer as mentioned in a post above as Booba had it covered.

Our new Passat has the visibility package with the dynamic bixenon headlights. The low and high beam comes out of the same light. There is an adjacent light and so far I have not been able to turn it on. What is this light? I've tried the auto position as well as the manual headlight switch position.
Also, how much should the lights turn when going around a corner?

    Help welcome.

Isn't the other light just the indicator?

You can see the movement range when they do their self test when you first start the car. The actual behaviour in normal operation will be different (they won't both go outwards at the same time, for example), but at least you can see how far out they can go.
