Fob Key partial failure

This one has me stumped. My usual fob key stopped unlocking / locking car and open boot function doesn't work either. Also no flashing of indicators.

Once inside car fob key starts engine fine so obviously(disabling) the engine immobiliser function works. Replacement of fob key battery as per sticky (great sticky by the way) made no difference.

Is this a key coding issue or just a simple key failure? The second key that has only been used about 10 times til now works fine so I don't think the issue is with the car itself.

As the mechanical key setup really is just for emergency use, I really want to get a second key working without having to get a replacement at exhorbitant price.

If a battery wont fix it, it's pretty much dead. Does the little red LED on the fob work?

You'll need to replace the fob. You can keep your emergency key, though.

i wouldnt be surprised if its just lost its setting to the car. if the little red light still lights up on the fob that would suggest its still ok. I believe on this forum somewhere it states a method to recode it to the car manually. Otherwise a trip to a dealer or workshop.

Battery didn't fix it and Red LED does NOT work.

Wonder if this one will be covered by warranty? I bet they claim you don't need it to get into the car!!!

Bad news is that replacement is $355.21 + GST + 1 Hour labour for coding = $533.75

Good news is that extended warranty (Allianz) is covering the cost. It hadn't been swimming but they didn't even ask the question, just accepted that the transmitter had failed and gave the dealer the authorization over the phone.
