Well, I had 2 dealers in NSW come back to me with quotes for the Alltrack loaded with every option except the sunroof and electric seats. Only thing is it will be a factory order with roughly a six month wait. First dealer quoted me $61k ish and the second $53k. Small difference. Will keep looking and see what else comes back.

I got my GTI last year from Brisbane and trucked it back to Darwin.

Darwin dealer wanted New Car RRP for his demo GTI. Wouldn't budge a cent. Then he wouldn't order me a new car either. Tried to force me into the demo. It was thousands cheeper in the long run and I got the options I wanted.

Sounds about right Tob35, they seem to have earned a reputation up here and rely largely on government/fleet sales. Out of interest if you don't mind me asking, what did it cost you to truck it back from Brisbane?

It was in the $1200 area. I went through auto logistics and they pretty much are just a broker. Truck turned up and the Golf was unloaded at Truck City. No depot. Was lucky I could go get it straight away.

I would definatly recomend Prixcar. They have a great setup and I have moved two other vehicles with them. For less than a hundred more than others quoted.

Consider Adelaide and Melbourne to source a vehicle. Transport from both cities to Darwin can be via rail. A much cheeper and reliable method.

Cheers for that. I've moved two cars up here two years ago via truck and both required panel repairs on arrival. Hopefully train may be a little gentler on the vehicle. Thanks for the info.

Looking on Carsales.com, the Alltrack appears to be in short supply - they are asking near full price for demos & nobody appears to have any new stock.

Is fully loaded what you actually want?

I think your best idea is to put together a std pro-forma of the exact specification you are after & send it to all the dealers where you are willing to ship from.

Also, have you considered a Superb AWD or the Subaru?

    Hi Brad,

Yes, I've listed all the options to standardise the specifications and process. Ultimately, I can ship from anywhere so that's not an issue, though obviously if its a capital city then that makes it a little easier. I don't have to have all the options of course, but they're nice to have! If I can, why not. I must admit to being surprised at the price gap in quotes given both quotes were specified with the identical specifications. I'd say that so long as you're in a position to wait i.e. factory order, then deals can be done.

I have looked seriously at the Superb and Outback, but every time I look at them I can only grimace. They're both well built functional vehicles, but they just don't do it for me.

Some dealerships simply don't take faxed / emailed "requests for quote" seriously.
I used to have to purchase vehicles for my previous employers OS outstations (therefore we weren't considered a fleet purchaser despite owning about 2000 vehicles) and it was surprising how many suppliers either ignored you or came back with RRP pricing despite being made aware that we had a definite requirement for a vehicle, would be placing an order within 6 weeks & tenders were on a first & final offer basis.

Skoda are an aquired taste - I think mine looks great now but thought it looked 10 years out of date when I bought ion 2008.

My wife had the latest Outback until recently - thank God you didn't have to look at it when you were driving. It was a good car for the purpose though.
