Finally sold WRX can now pick up R36!

    Hi All,

I have been keeping a low profile the last month as I have been waiting for my new R36 to turn up. Well it did turn up, 2 months early! and what a saga.

I was told 4 months, so that then gave me time to get some damage repaired when my WRX was parked at McDonald's to get some ice cream for the kids. No one saw anything of course. I always planed to sell the car privately. (mistake)

I then bought a "cheap" run about thinking that I'll sell the WRX in 60 seconds and need something to drive around in the mean time. Boy was I wrong!

Found a 93 lancer, had a friend check it out ( a mechanic) and the head was gone. Said he could fix it cheap ($500) as long as I could get the car at a good price. Negotiated and got the car for $2200 No worries. It owes me $2600.......sell for $3500 (in my own mind)

4 weeks later the mechanic finally gets it back on the road for $650 My wife takes it to work the next night (she does shift work 1130pm till 730am admin in a hospital doesn't want to get the X5 damaged in a car park) and almost at work and the radiator goes! $650 latter new radiator! This is turning into a disaster. It now owes us $3500

Get a call from VW telling me the R36 has turned up, haven't sold the WRX and now have a lancer I didn't need, and I thought was being smart.

VW more than happy to have the R36 in the showroom and given me time to sell my car. Finally sold the WRX tonight and can pick up the R36 next week.

Anyone want a 93 Lancer, it runs like clockwork now!

we had a differnet experience- sold the wifes bmw 528 wagon 2 months before the car arrived. ( what a relief the car had LOTs to be spent on it ).

then we rented an audi A3 for.. $ 36 a day ( no kidding)

the deal was a Europcar long term rental ( > 1 month) , then i asked for a bigger discount and they said if i had the entertainment book i could get a further 25%. Only on audi's). i reckon at 36 a day its cheaper to rent the thing than own one.

I highly recommend this approach, it was fun with the A3, though the passat is much better.

plus at time of purchase just rang up europcar and gave it back. easy.
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

I had an HQ panel van like that Lancer once upon a time, and it was cheaper to replace it with a brand new VZ panel van.
