That's not good. I've never had anything like that - only not firing on cold mornings if I haven't given the glow plugs enough time and not held the starter button in long enough.
Tried to start my new 125kw TDi Passat and there was nothing - just a click and everything disappeared from the dash. No lights or anything.
Remote wouldn't respond - I closed the doors and pressed the lock button and retryed and it started but the time was reset but not the date and the fuel range halved.
Anyone else have this problem?
Spoke to VW service and they haven't seen it only response was a glitch.
Has not reoccurred and only have 500km's on the clock.

That sounds like a classic loose battery terminal connection, if not check the earth cable from the battery to the ground points for loose connection.

Thanks for the info, problem has not re-occurred so service is going to run a diagnostic on the system
