Fail to start

Tried to start my new 125kw TDi Passat and there was nothing - just a click and everything disappeared from the dash. No lights or anything.

Remote wouldn't respond - I closed the doors and pressed the lock button and retryed and it started but the time was reset but not the date and the fuel range halved.

Anyone else have this problem?

Spoke to VW service and they haven't seen it only response was a glitch.

Has not reoccurred and only have 500km's on the clock.

That's not good. I've never had anything like that - only not firing on cold mornings if I haven't given the glow plugs enough time and not held the starter button in long enough.

Didn't get the chance to even get that far. Just as soon as key was in everything went off.

Unfortunately this is precisely the sort of thing that happens when cars become dependent on computers. Must be running Windows Vista

That sounds like a classic loose battery terminal connection, if not check the earth cable from the battery to the ground points for loose connection.

Or discharged/flat battery or dead battery.

Thanks for the info, problem has not re-occurred so service is going to run a diagnostic on the system
