fantastic selling feature if you are selling the car at say 3-4 years- able to offer the buyer a warranty of 1-3 years - puts you in the same or better position as the dealers.
can someone confirm you "buy" this extended warranty around the time your manufacturers warranty is about to expire?
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.
Yes. That's what I am doing right now. My original manufacturer's warranty is about to expire next week. I have been researching, considering and procrastinating for the past few months and I have left it right to the last days which I don't recommend you do.
Once your manufacturer's warranty expires, you are no longer eligible for the new vehicle extended warranty but you can buy a used vehicle warranty which is cheaper but doesn't cover as much as the new vehicle warranty. (I haven't researched this one much but others say it is not as good.)
Do your research and make your decision with enough time before your warranty expires to cater for any last minute hitches such as dealer reps on holidays or not returning calls for a day or two.
The good news is that I have now made contact with Jamil Syeed at Denlo Parramatta and he does indeed quote a very good price and emails a pdf copy of the Volkswagen New Vehicle Extended Warranty PDS. This is an insurance product from Allianz Australia that provides cover "in accordance with the cover provided by a manufacturer’s warranty".
You just need to read the PDS, provide your details, your vehicle details and your credit card.
I paid $995 incl. GST for the official 3 Year / 60k warranty and roadside updrade on a new 2010 Passat 125 TDI wagon purchase. It's the one mentioned here supplied by Allianz. Strangely the VW website doesn't mention extended roadside there but it was mentioned to me and it's in my contract as 'Upgrade Warranty/Roadside". Perhaps it's the rental and towing part of the insurance but that's not quite the same as roadside assistance.
PS I did get a corporate plus discount though, but it wouldn't have made that much difference. $2200 seems way to much and could just be to make $1700 sound like a good deal.
Got a quote today for a 3 year extended new car warranty for my MY07 TDI Passat sedan: $1650 from VW dealer in Belconnen ACT.
The original warranty expires in May.
Considering a replacement DSG would cost $20,000 plus (so I have read elsewhere) it would be money well spent I imagine. Plus those boys provide great service (in my experience).
