    Exhaust gas warning lamp

All of a sudden my Vw Passat 2007 wagon's exhaust gas warning lamp came on.
Has anybody had similar trouble with their Passats?
Could it be a cracked catalitic converter, lamberd sensor, oxygen sensor????

Just want to try and cover the obvious before taking it to the VW dealerships.

I've just had the same thing happen on my 2006 Passat FSI. Did you get to the bottom of this issue Tommie?

Likewise - my MY2008 has had the light come on recently. It kept turning on and off for a while and now stays on. I tried the petrol cap and taking it for a good run, to no avail. Any thoughts?

Also, as I am out of warranty, could some one recommend a trustworthy non-VW service centre in the Sydney Metro area (preferably North Shore or Eastern Suburbs) to look at this.

    Many thanks,

I've had problems with this as well. My warning lamp has come on around 4 times over the last 6 months. The most recent being last week. I took it into my local dealer and they diagnosed it as an error with the o2 sensor. Their guess was that some soot was building up on it and it wasn't able to report accurate information. I've no idea why that would be happening... Anyway, they reset the error code and said that if it happens again, which I'm sure it will, to book it in to have the sensor replaced. Estimate for that was around $400...

An update to my case. Light went off after first appearing within 24hrs. One month later and it has not returned (touch wood).
To fix I put a dose of injector cleaner and topped up the tank with fresh 98oct. Seems to have sorted it out so I have put it down to a bad batch of fuel as the cause.
