    Elusive VW Assist

Our B6 Passat has just clicked over into it's sixth year of faithful service. Every year I have an irritating kerfuffle with VW Assist. It starts with not receiving a renewal notice, despite them having my address. Then after some phone tag through a message answering service I finally find a human who renews my coverage. I know they only provide this service for six or seven years, but they seem set on evading renewals once the initial three year coverage is over. Anyone else experienced this?

I used Skoda Assist, which I expect is the same. No problems with renewal - always received a notice - though I did renew via the net not via phone. However, I sold the Skoda soon after one of these renewals and was told the fee is non-refundable. I gave the card to the dealer I traded the vehicle to since the new owner apparently could use the service I paid for. Not a big deal really but symptomatic of the VAG approach to customer service...
