    Electrical Gremlins

I have a few things going on with my R36, though the airconditioning compressor saga I will leave for another thread…

My lowline reversing camera had been working fine since I sorted out my front parking sensors (A bad repair from a previous front accident meant the wiring from the parking sensors was shorting out - sorted by replacing complete wiring loom.) However now when I select reverse the camera will display briefly before reverting to the OPS screen. The rear parking sensors are working fine and my reversing light is also working correctly. Any ideas?

When I start my car the MFD shows the vehicle status – i.e a diagram of the wagon body. It doesn’t revert to the last known display, which in my case is always the digital speedo, as it normally does. I have to hit the ok button on the steering wheel to get my digital speedo. What gives?

Finally, I’m not sure what is happening to my rear wiper –it wasn’t functioning correctly this morning in the wet Sydney traffic, but I haven’t had a chance to play around with it. All I know it is not working off the stalk. Thoughts?

Maybe it’s time that I invest in a VCDS cable…

Ok, I'll reply to my own post...

Opened the power tailgate last night - to make sure it worked. It did.

This morning I fired up the R36 and the rear wiper came on, the reverse camera worked and even the MFD showed the digital speedo!

I can only think it is a possible wiring issue that righted itself when I opened and closed the tailgate. Yes we had to open up the rubber grommet on the left hand tailgate hinge to feed the wiring for the camera when it was installed. I don't intend to play with it now - especially as it is now working. Will leave it alone...

Dumb question maybe but when you say when you start the car the MFD shows the wagon display, and then all these unrelated issues relating to your tailgate like the reverse cam and wiper not working... are you sure the car didn't think the tailgate was open? For my MY10.5 the only time the wagon logo ever shows on the MFD is when it is displaying a door or panel is still open. For tailgate that would mean illuminating the tailgate white instead of black but it doesn't actually have a graphic change for open, it just changes colour.

Because on mine very rarely it will shut and engage the lock (I have power tailgate) but the car will think the gate is still open. Opening and closing it resolves the issue, but the way I always notice is the wagon outline is on the MFD.

Jakey, you might be right with the MFD display - I originally thought it may have been a door ajar. I will need to pay attention to the MFD when the tailgate is open, as I haven't noticed the change in the display.

As for the reversing camera and rear wiper I still think it was a wiring issue that was jolted by the tailgate slamming shut. I have reversed in my driveway with the tailgate open and the camera worked properly, though the view from the screen was a bit bizarre...

I've noticed a weird gremlin recently. On a cold start I receive a number plate not working error (I normally have my lights always on). I turn them all the way off, then back on and the error goes away. Weird. BTW, I've done the LED bulb replacement.
