Dynaudio upgrade

Hi all,

just wondering if any of you upgraded your systems to Dynaudio? Is it possible to be done after we purchase the car? or we have to include that when we purchase the car new?

And most importantly, how much?

Prior to the Passat I usually spent a few thousand upgrading my car's factory stereo with top end aftermarket Alpine/Pioneer systems - but for about $2k this is by far the best system I have had. The VW Dynaudio systems are also designed and tuned specifically for each model (the wagons are even different to the sedans).

You should be able to add it afterwards if you want to pay more for the VW spares 'special' price + fitting!

It's not available from VW as an after purchase fitting. It's built in at the factory, and they dont sell a kit to fit. Mine was ordered with it, didn't get ordered by the dealer, and to fit it they ordered another car with it and were going to rip the two cars apart to swap the gear. Rather than have to wait three months for a 1st yr apprentice to pull apart my car to fit something that probably wouldn't be fitted properly I elected to have them pay for me to fit a decent aftermarket system instead.

I got the Dynaudio with the CC. I posted my review in the audio section (and a few misc comments elsewhere). Suffice to say that I am extremely pleased at purchasing this as an option. I recently compared it against the stock system in another CC and although the basic unit is quite good, it is still not as clear and definitely lacks the midrange/woofer thump of the Dynaudio. The most impressive things about the Dynaudio is the overall clarity and the power and the fact that it sounds like it has a great subwoofer (though it doesn't!). I also agree that at $2,000 it is great value.

I am not sure whether you can fit one aftermarket but I am sure you could fit something that comes close, though not sure that it will cost as little as $2,000.

That's not accurate. LCT only applies to the proportion of the total cost of the car over the threshold so it's not as simple a calculation as 33% of $2000.

So when you're adding an option to a car already over the threshold of $57,466 I thought it would be subject to the 33%
I'd love to be wrong though
Say my car cost $67,466 before stamp duty and govt charges then LCT would be 33% of $10,000 approx $3300.
If you added a $2000 option then the LCT would be 33% of $12000 or $3960 an increase of $660 making the $2000 option $2660.
As I said Rocket this is a time I'd love you to prove me wrong as I'm no accountant

dont even think of getting this upgrade later. GET IT NOW if you can afford it now. It is one of the best factory offerred system around.
and very well priced. with test CD and an RTA this system really amazed me, its Dynaudio afterall

I never said you were wrong. I said what you were saying wasn't accurate. While I can see how you're working our your figures and I agree with them, the option does not become a $2660 option. The TOTAL cost of the car over the threshold attracts LCT, not individual component. So the option remains a $2000 option but because it makes the total cost of the car $2000 more, the LCT goes up in proportion to it.

The way around it is to do what my dealer did and invoice me separately for the options to keep the LCT down so it's not increased because of options.

I hope that there is no conscientious taxman that owns a Passat or that reads this forum, although it technically would not be your problem, The LCT is payable by the seller of the vehicle and you may have put the dealer in it. A search through this forum may even tell the taxman where you bought your R36.

If you buy a car with a GST-inclusive value above these LCT
thresholds, you must pay LCT. In general, the value of a car
includes the value of any parts, accessories or attachments
you supplied, or imported at the same time as the car.

WHO IS LIABLE FOR LCT?
You must pay LCT if you:
■ are registered, or required to be registered, for GST, and
■ sell a luxury car.
This includes retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers of cars
and any business which sells a luxury car.

Obviously the seller then recoups the LCT from the buyer of the vehicle by adding it into the purchase price.

But the fact remains, the value of a car
includes the value of any parts, accessories or attachments
you supplied, or imported at the same time as the car. no matter how many invoices you get.
