    "DVD error" message

It seems my RNS510 wont read the SDHC card so I am trying to load files via a DVD-R disc. It is giving me another error message "DVD/CD error"

I am at wits end well, I've been here for a while now...

To the best of my knowledge, you can only load (transfer) files from the SD card to the HDD - not from the DVD.

Take it back to your VW dealer & get them to sort it for you.

No, you can load from the DVD... but it's very slow. You need to make sure that your DVD is burned correctly (it has to be 'closed' and needs to have been burned in a format that supports long file names, or all the files and folders will be truncated to 8 characters, all UPPERCASE... voice of experience here! As the RNS510 turns off after 30 minutes, you can only do about 1GB at a time from a DVD, so it is a painful painful process.

That is why I gave up and use a 32GB SDHC card. Has to be formatted with FAT32, and as long as it has mp3s on it and you have firmware 2660 (or I think 1200 that also reads SDHC), and I think hardware revision H04 or later it should work fine...

That will explain why I could never get it to work - will stick with my SD card

    Thanks Swallowtail, good tips there.
Since my firmware wont read the FAT32 SDHC card, I guess my next step will be to upgrade to 2660. Two questions, where can I get the files from, and are there any special considerations/ tricks involved in the upgrade process ?

    Cheers, John

Hmmmm... Scarey! (well for me to attempt I mean)

Anyone know of the benefits other than the SDHC compatibility for a MY09 car? I just did my music copying in 2Gb lots with a 2Gb SD card over a period of time until the Hard drive was full. I guess the downside is I only have the HDD + 2Gb capacity but I still haven't driven far enough to even come close to listening to all my music. 22Gb of music is bloody good imo, plus I can still play CDs/DVDs.
