Hi there
My V6 Highline had about 7,000 kms on the clock when I bought it. The DSG has always been a bit snatchy on take-off. It's not terrible, and I can modulate the throttle and take off smoothly if I'm careful - but if I'm not careful, it can be quite sudden. Once on the move, everything runs perfectly.
Are all V6s like this? I've read there's a software upgrade that can solve the issue. Has anyone done it? and did it make a difference?
Thanks
Jim

Best check with dealer and quote your vin, they can tell if there is a software update otherwise it may need a reset. Its been DSG city for me this week, new dual masses, resets and services, they all come in lots. in all ive found they have been reliable compared to what we get now, hopefully that will be ironed out too. Treat the DSg like a manual as it is essentially, but dont really need to remind you as you sound like you already know that and have had the car a while, im just adding that for the masses I checked a jetta yesterday and it was like that but a lot worse and ive condemmed it. I would have it checked asap, it should never have you fearing a sudden jolt mate
Keep up posted

A reset and oil change followed by a bit of driving in manual mode made a huge difference to my 2006 v6 wagon.
I also had a faulty crankshaft sensor at one point. There were no obvious symptoms, it was picked up during service. I swear after it was replaced the gearbox was better behaved. No complaints with mine now.
edit: oops I mean camshaft sensor.

Mine isn't and it has 7000km on it now... i figure it is a manual so i wont roll inch up hills at the lights like all the Camry types... I have accepted the mechatronics unit drives a manual better than I do... I love the box... yours ain't normal... go to the dealership and get the dude in the corner office to go for a spin with you...
(Could it be an autohold releasing issue? Just spekulating)

Thanks for all the comments. It's hard to know what's 'normal' when you've only ever driven one!
I'll take it to the dealer and let you all know.
Cheers
Update:
I took the car into the dealer this week and went for a test drive with their road test guy. He drove the car and agreed there was sometimes a noticeable clunk in the transmission on takeoff (not a loud or vilent clunk, but noticeable nevertheless). I left the car with them.
Apparently, the road test guy then drove the car with a VW tecnician and to cut a long story short, they say the clunking sound on takeoff is to do with the auto-hold function and is 'normal'.
I'm certainly not convinced. I've since noticed a similar clunking noise coming form the front of the car when braking and driving over speed humps. It almost feels as though there is something loose in the transmission.
In any case, the car needs to go back for it's 15,000km service soon (it has done 10,000) so I'll keep an eye on it and discuss with them again if I'm still not happy.
Wow, I have never heard VW ever say that a problem is normal.
