    DSG Oil Leak!

In the past couple of weeks my car has failed to engage Reverse 2 or 3 times, and the past few days I've noticed the car marginally hesitating when going from 1st to 2nd gear at low acceleration. I noticed an oil stain where I park my car everyday, assuming it was old. Tracked it over the past few days and it's growing very quickly, so tonight I decided to pop my hood and I saw a lot of oil around my DSG filter housing!!!

R36 is at 85,000km, DSG last serviced at 60,000km. Minor service was done 2,000km ago and the mechanic mentioned a jerky DSG.

From the photo in poor light it looks like the housing or seal could be stuffed, so hopefully an easy fix, but my question is whether any permanent damage has been done over the weeks....?

I would have expected a warning light or info message to appear if the oil level was low to the point of causing such issues?

Get it cleaned off and monitor it.

It's easy to dump a bit of oil all over the top of the gearbox and into all the cavities when removing the filter housing.

Leaks are pretty uncommon with this particular model DSG, but I'd never rule it out.

Had a similar issue approximately 15000k after I did the DSG service. It was the filter housing o'ring, a Vaico brand. Replaced it with a genuine VW part and haven't had an issue since.

Seen a fair few leak from cracks in the filter housing cap. Never had it happen to any I have done so I can only assume it is from over tightening it.

Get it sorted asap and you shouldn't have any issues. Level likely hasn't dropped a whole heap as it will throw warning lights/limp mode etc if the pump can't get the system up to pressure.

Drop me a PM if you need a price on the cap/seal or the DSG service itself.
